Description of iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle SeatEasy and safer loading and unloading of the child, enclosed leg wells for comfort and safety, seat fits most children four years old and younger. Created by parents who were disappointed with the family bicycling options available, the iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle seat was made to offer families the best biking experience possible in safety and comfort. This front mounted seat offers both parent and child excellent range of vision, with the opportunity to interact as they bike together. Noted for its ease of use, the seat takes just a few minutes to install and remove, and it is equally easy and safe to load and unload the child from the seat. Providing plenty of clearance for the knees so that the adult can bike with ease, the seat is positioned so that it is easy to maintain the center of gravity. This adaptable seat fits any adult bike with a minimum of 3/4 inches of clearance on the handlebar stem. The iBert Safe-T seat was developed after its creators became frustrated with the available bike seat options for children. They found that bike trailers kept their kids uncomfortably far away from them, got too hot in the sun, and only provided a limited view out to the children. The rear-mounted seats presented similar problems. The kids had a limited view and it was difficult to interact with them. Additionally, the balance of the bike was off and it was not easy to load and unload the kids. Other front mounted seats were complicated to hook onto the bike and difficult to remove. These seats also did not allow knee clearance for biking, and as a result were not comfortable. The iBert Safe-T seat offers a variety of safety and comfort advantages compared to other child bike seat options. The iBert Safe-T seat allows you to maintain control of the bike when loading and unloading your child. To load and unload the child, you simply straddle the bike and lift the child into or out of the seat. When using the iBert seat you can always see what your child is doing and you can make sure that your child is safe and comfortable at all times. The center of gravity in the iBert seat is closer to the center of the bike making it easier to control the bike as you ride. The seat sits higher on the bike and is smooth on the bottom so that even tall riders rarely brush the bottom of the seat with their knees and if they do they just glide along the smooth edges on the bottom. The iBert Safe-T seat is easy to install. The patented stinger assembly attaches to any bike with a minimum of 3/4 inches on the handle bar stem. The stinger system attaches to the bike in just two minutes and the seat can then be attached and detached from the stinger in 15 seconds. If you buy additional stinger assemblies the seat can be attached to multiple bikes. The iBert Safe-T seat is made in the U.S.A. with safety and quality as the main objectives. While the iBert Safe-T seat is designed to meet all 1625-00 standards, at this time ASTM 1625-00 is written for rear child carriers not front mounted seats. Sports reviews of iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle SeatCustomer Review: Love it! Way better than our rear seat. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
When our daughter was 10 months old, we got a well rated rear seat for my bike (a Jamis Coda). While the seat was comfortable for baby, it was frustrating to me because I couldn't use a rear rack, and with her on the back and a loaded basket on the front, the bike felt really off balance. Plus, she was right behind me, and her view was really hindered by my back. And she'd kick me in the rear if I didn't strap her legs in (which I wasn't crazy about doing).
I ordered the Ibert, got it on my bike in less than five minutes, and took her for a ride. Right away, I noticed how much more stable my bike felt. I will be able to put a rack and panniers on the back and actually run errands by bike. As soon as we took off, my daughter was ringing the bell and waving at people out and about.
The straps aren't the absolute best (hard to get to stay on her shoulders) but she is very secure in the seat when I consider the straps, the crossbar, and how little wiggle room she has under the handlebars. My bike is also set up with wide, swept back handlebars, which work fantastic with the seat. I don't have to lean over her at all like I might have to do if I had flat bars.
I did have to lower my saddle a bit so that I could put a foot down when stopped. I don't have enough room to get off of the saddle and stand between the Ibert and the saddle at a stoplight. It was an easy solution that was far less awkward than I anticipated.
All in all, I LOVE the Ibert, and the benefits far outweigh some of the small compromises we made to use it. I'd highly recommend swapping out for a nice wide, albatross style handlebar to be more comfortable like we have.

Just my experience:
I am a 5 ft. 3 in. woman, I weigh about 40 pounds. I am not athletic or particularly coordinated.
I had not ridden a bike in 5 years, purchased a bike and this seat at the same time.
Did not begin using the seat until my son was age 2 1/2, weighing a little more than 25 pounds.
Is it too hard to pedal? No, it isn't. I do walk up a lot of hills, and a lot of the time we are going pretty slow, but it is fun and not too hard.
Does a toddler like it? Yes, he does. He has figured out how to use my hand brakes, I let him do it a lot of times when we are starting out, until the novelty wears off. I don't bother with the black strap, he is big enough not to fall out. If we are going slow on a flat sidewalk, I let him "steer" by himself and hold on to the side of the seat, he likes to hold on to the handlebars by himself sometimes. (More than I can safely let him.)
Safety: He has fallen once, when I was going to walk accross a street. I didn't have a good grasp of how front-heavy we were, and he just tipped sideways and I couldn't catch him. But it was no big deal. I am very careful now though, when I am not riding, to hold on with two hands. On the other hand -- it is a very smooth ride, I have never felt any lopsidedness when we are riding. And this includes when he rocks from side to side. He has head-butted my chest (knocking his head behind him) a couple of times, it would have hurt if he had gotten my face (with his helmet). I can't really address this though, his head-butting phase is basically over.
Customer Review: iBert Safe-T Seat - Great Product for young riders! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
We purchased this child seat in the hopes that our son, who is 10 months old, would have a more engaging experience on our family bike rides. We have a pull-behind trailer for longer trips or when he's tired, but we thought he would enjoy this front-facing seat better. We have not been disappointed.
The seat mount attached to our Trek Soho with very little trouble and there is good clearance around the handlebars and the frame. The seat slides onto the mount and attaches firmly and securely. There are harness-style over the shoulder belts as well as a crossbar to secure our son, and there is very little possibility of him wiggling out or getting turned around. He wouldn't be interested in turning around, anyway, because with this seat all of the action is right in front of him.
The seat does somewhat limit your ability to make extremely sharp turns, mainly due to our knees possibly hitting the bottom of the seat, but this is not a real problem because you would not be making those types of sudden and extreme movements with a child on board anyway. Normal operation of the bike is not affected with this seat.
The balance on the bike is still very reasonable and manageable even with the little guy out over the front handlebars. Brakes and shifters are still easy to get to and operate.
Our overall satisfaction with this purchase is extremely high, the build quality and components used on the seat are first rate, and we would highly recommend it to anyone with young kids who are tired of their bike trailer, or who aren't quite big enough for their own bikes yet.
Customer Review: Love this seat Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This has been one of the best kid products we have purchased. I bought it to use with my second child. Our first bike seat was one that installed behind the seat, but with it installed I could not use my son's tag-a-long bike. I much prefer the iBert to using the one that fits on the back. Balance is one reason for this. When my son sat in the seat behind me, his movements would easily throw off my balance. With my daughter in front of me, any wiggle or movement she has had has not caused me to feel unbalanced at all. I can also see my daughter while we bike this way and can see if she is sleepy or if her helmet isn't right and stop and fix any problem without having to try to look behind me while riding.
One comment I have noticed a few times is the lack of space between the seat and the bike seat. There is minimal space between the seats, you just have to start with your leg over you bike seat and not straddle the bike. A few practice runs and starting and stopping is pretty easy. I also noticed a few people commenting on hitting the seat with their knees. If you raise your seat a bit, this problem goes away as well. As far as mounting the seat, I did have to bring my bike in to have an extender put on, but it had to do with the type of handlebar that my bike has (mine is not round)- needed a tune up anyway so they did it for free.
One point I particularly like about the seat is that I can have my daughter on the front and my son on the tag-a-long behind me and we can go on a bike ride together. It is easier going than having them both in the trailer, and he gets some exercise too!
Customer Review: Great seat! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
We purchased this for our 2 1/2 year old. He's just about 30lbs. We've used it on my bike as well as my wife's and we both have found it to be a wonderful way to take our toddler with us. He absolutely loves to go on bike rides with us and his 4 1/2 year old sister.
Like other reviewers, we feel this seat is much better than the one you install behind the seat on top of the rear wheel. When we are biking, my son is inches away from my head. It is so easy to talk to each other as he sees and wonders at his surroundings. Also, he gets a great view without obstructions. I'm 6'2", 275lbs, and I have no problems with my legs hitting the seat. Even when they brush the sides, the seat is smooth and rounded so it's not a big deal. Have had no issues. Installation is very simple and a hex key tool is included to install. My bike has a very wide head tube for the handlebar while my wife's has a normal head tube and the T-bar installs with no problem on both. Taking the seat on & off the T-bar is very easy, takes seconds. I personally take the T-bar off the bike if the seat is not on it. I don't think I would want to slide into that if I accidently slid off the bike. :-)
My wife is 5'4", 122lbs and she also has no problems.
Only word of caution that we would add is that it does alter the weight of the bike and stopping and starting requires a little more effort and forethought, especially for my wife. HIGHLY recommend this seat to get your toddler out there with you on family bike rides.
