Customer Review: Quality Lighter Fluid

One of the important criteria for me when purchasing lighter fluid was how "pure" the fluid was. By purity I mean how much of less desirable "less-volatile petroleum distillates" (in lay-man's terms, harder to burn impurities) that were left as residue when an amount of fluid was allowed to evaporate on it's own. This factor was especially important because I was also considering using this lighter fluid as a alternative to VM&P Naphtha (don't ask me why I would want to substitute for VM&P Naphtha, I just didn't feel like buying it I guess) for use as a non-polar solvent where the fluid would be allowed to evaporate off. Hence, low contamination rates would be desired.
A short aside: Having a fluid that evaporates cleanly is also useful for Zippos because it means that you will have to clean your Zippo less frequently because there will be less build-up inside the lighter. Also, it means that there are less chemicals that you don't want to inhale when the fluid is burned and inherently the "taste" of cigarettes and pipes is less affected by the fuel.
I found that this lighter fluid was exceptionally clean compared to reports of other naphtha based lighter fluids that I have heard of (IE. Ronsonol). I left a bit of fluid in a bowl (very unscientific I know) and allowed it to evaporate for 24 hours. I found that there was no visible residue on the bowl and there was no residual smell of fuel. Based on the price (I got it for six dollars plus shipping) and my own makeshift experiment, the quality of this fuel can't be beat without buying straight-up VM&P Naphtha or ACS Reagent-grade Naphtha (don't try buying this unless you are an industrial / educational chemist). However, I can't recommend this product for the full price of $40 or even $20 for that matter. It is simply not that amazing (I'd personally spend $40 on reagent grade naphtha only) and you would be better off using pure VM&P Naphtha as lighter fluid (however I recommend buying designated lighter fluids in case certain Naphtha products have toxic adulterants, contaminants, or additives like Benzene (just for example))
If you use your Zippo for smoking, I highly recommend getting this fuel; it's better for your lungs, your Zippo, and your smoking experience. I personally plan to give my friend a container of this lighter fluid to go with her new Zippo. Just try to spend less than a dollar per ounce (not including tax and shipping) on this fluid or it's not really worth it.
Just a note: I'm talking about the Zippo "Cool Fuel" Clean Burning Lighter Fluid (the picture doesn't seem to show that particular container anymore but it is still in the description).
