Customer Review: It's a shame a formerly great American brand has become such trash

Like one of the other reviewers, I bought this because I was tired of cheapo throw-aways that didn't last. Unfortunately, this doesn't last either.

Zippo's standard lighters (the ones that use the liquid fuel) are great products - I still have one an ex-wife gave me almost thirty years ago that works like a charm. These, not so much. It worked for a couple of months, then started becoming difficult to light. (just like the cheapo throwaways) So I check on Zippo's website and discover that the warranty is almost as worthless as the lighter itself. As someone else noted, by the time you've paid to ship it back (by a trackable method, as recommended) AND paid their five dollar "shipping and handling fee" (I thought it was illegal to charge for warranty service - it's certainly not ethical) you've pretty much bought a new lighter.

Have ALL the formerly great American brands become complete and utter trash? Aren't there any that still make the fine products for which we were formerly known worldwide? Or did the desire for a quick buck take precedence, as usual, and quality went out the window?
