My daughter & I each bought one of these mats & I'm going to buy another one for my brother. We are all tall so we enjoy the longer mat where our head or feet are not hanging off the ends. The thickness is great & easier on the body than the 1/8" thick mats at the studio. I read complaints about the weight, smell & slipperyness of the mat but ordered it anyway. I weighed it on a scale that weighs to the ounce & this mat wieghs 3.8 pounds. It is not heavy at all. Our mats had a new smell but nothing offensive & I just laid mine out flat for 24hrs & the new smell went away. My mat was a bit slippery so I just washed my mat in the bath tub with some soap & water & let it dry & that helped. Excellent quality mat for yoga, sit-ups, or other ground activity.
What isn't emphasized is the texture of this mat, which is much more bumpy than some of the smoother pictures would have you believe. This improves your traction on top of the mat as well as the contact with the floor.
It's very long; I'm 6'6 and can stretch out comfortably. As it is rather large, you might want to get a larger bag to carry it around as some of the cheaper, smaller bags won't be able to fit it in there easily.
All-in-all, this is a necessity for yoga for balance poses and even some of the moving techniques as it will comfort your contact areas as well as soften your feet/hand pressure.

I have been doing Yoga for about 2 weeks and I have pretty much mastered all the poses. I was asking my instructor if there were some secret moves that I didn't know about and she told me I should look into getting a Yoga mat. Next thing you know, I've got this awesome mat and I'm making Yoga breakthroughs every day now. I've even invented four new poses that I'm trying to get patented. My instructor told me that I am far too good and that she couldn't help me anymore. She's just jealous. When I'm not pulling off amazing Yoga chops I use this mat to sleep on or brush cracker crumbs off my dog's back. My dog eats a ton of crackers. I use this mat everyday and I love it. Its cushiony, and the length is perfect for a tall girl like me.
This mat feels really stable when you are in balancing postures. I practice a varied amount of yoga styles, from hot yoga, to a non heated vinyasa practice, to Bikram, this mat has been superb. I haven't had a problem with smell like other reviews have said, or maybe there was a smell and it was so long ago that I don't remember, but I did air it out when I got it.
Also, be careful if you wash it because this mat soaks it up like a sponge on steroids, I did a super wash in my shower and it took a couple days to dry out.

This yoga accessories mat is exactly what I wanted/needed and is a fantastic value. I ordered this mat, because my pilates instructor loves rolling like a ball, and my vertebrae were getting bruised when using a regular 1/8" mat. I have been placing this mat under my regular mat to make it even thicker for pilates (I bruise very easily). It works great on its own for hot yoga though. I did notice the "rubbery" smell when I first removed the plastic wrapping, but I just hung it over my closet door to air out for a couple days, and it was gone by the time I brought it to my hot studio that week.
