This is a thicker and longer economy PVC mat. It does the job pretty well. This 1/4 inch mat protects better when practicing on a hard floor than economy mats that are 1/8 inch thick. And, I appreciate the longer 74 inch length.
This is a regular open-cell PVC foam mat without decoration or rounded corners. As with all new yoga mats (even PTE mats), you should unroll it and let it off-gas for a week or so before using.
Initially the mat had a mediocre grip, and it worsened if sweat dripped on the mat. The phrase "Slippery When Wet" comes to mind. To improve tackiness, I tired cleaning it several ways.
I finally found a method that hugely improved the grip. I washed the mat in HOT water using the GENTLE cycle of our large capacity clothes washing machine. I filled the washer to capacity and added a bit over a cup of vinegar and just a few drops of clothes washing detergent (not dish liquid, which is often formulated with oils). Do not let the mat go through a spin cycle, which can damage the foam. Rinse really well, perhaps in a bathtub or shower. Press out (without twisting) as much water as possible and rinse again. Place on a clothes rack for a couple days to dry thoroughly. The tackiness will be dramatically improved.
YogaAccessories shipped quickly. If the mat were supplied with better instructions, I would give it five starts.
