Customer Review: Good buy
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Works great... can turn a high powered fan on, stand 1 ft away, turn around 180º, and light a cigarette. I figure that's more than any windy day, right? Adjust the gas flow carefully, or you'll suck down the butane real quick, and probably burn your nose a few times on the invisible flame. I bought the orange model, to easily find it. Its practically a light in itself. I havn't used it to light campfires, and when I thought about using it to light my oven, I changed my mind--unless you set the flame really high, you'll not get much distance, and there's no spark to light the oven. Use some intermediary kindling/branch/leaves/paper for lighting fires/stoves. With moderate use, it'll hang in for a 14 day trip, but set it low from the begining. Spend a few seconds getting to know the flame, preferably w the lights out, and you'll dial in the use of fuel. I was surprised reading some of the lower reviews... I'm actually getting another one. Its robust, and has been in my pockets jumping in and out of boats, and worked just fine right after. This thing will always be a part of my gear. I give it 4.5 stars

I just wanted to note that this design is exactly the same as a product being sold for under $13 at the local box store, that will remain nameless, but is in every state in the union and sells everything you might need. Check their camping section. I found it in a blister pack hanging on a hook.

I like it. It lights easily with a steady press on the starter. It is easy to fill with a butane can that has a narrow nozzle. It was inexpensive and I am usually not in extreme winds when I need it. It makes a "roar" sound when lit. Adjust the height for your preference. If you are having trouble, try lighting it in low light until you get it adjusted, so you can see the flame. I use it for fire starting outside and carry it for emergencies. No leaks.

For me it was worth the price. Had I paid more than $13, well, I wouldn't have bought it.

Customer Review: Dependible and rugged
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

This lighter has become part of my every day carry items. It's reliable and it works well in heavy wind. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to its rapid fuel consumption. I would like to see a slightly larger fuel capacity. As it stands, it's still a great piece of kit. I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a dependable lighter.

Customer Review: Not a good cigar torch.
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I was looking for a good butane lighter for my cigars, and a friend recommended this one. My first shipment was defective: the fuel feed was uneven, and all of the gas leaked out overnight. I exchanged it for a new one, which works.

Pros: It looks impressive from a distance, and it probably won't break if you accidentally sit on it or something.

Cons: The wind won't blow it out, but if there's more than the gentlest of breezes the flame will be pathetic, and you won't be able to toast your cigars. Next, the thumb switch heats up extremely quickly, so my fingers are roasting long before I get a good coal going on the cigar. Lastly, this thing drinks fuel; I have to refill it after every third or fourth cigar. I don't see the point of 'survival gear' which requires you to carry two or more cans of butane gas if you're planning on being in the woods more than two or three days.

Conclusion: this is probably a fine cigarette lighter, but it's not so good for cigars or campfires.

Customer Review: Works well for less than 10 seconds at a time
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I bought this lighter for emergency use starting fires (I do alot of climbing/backpacking). When I first got it I played with it adjusting the flame and whatnot and found that the metal button used to ignite it gets so hot after about 10 seconds its painful (even on a low setting!). I could also smell something like burning rubber/plastic coming from the inside so for kicks I used the medium setting with a glove for about 30 seconds and the parts around the button actually started melting!!! Luckily I got it at an REI store and they have the best return policy. For cigarettes this would work fine but for any use that requires continuous flame its just too powerful for its own construction!
