Here's my situation: For the summer, I moved across the country to do research. I needed a bed upon getting here that would be durable and comfortable for 10 weeks and portable enough to bring home so I wouldn't lose the investment. I looked at a few different products and eventually chose this, I couldn't be happier.
Misconceptions: While trying to find the manufacturer website, I couldn't find anything through Wenzel, however, a search for Insta-Bed quickly found the original webpage. Additionally, the bed I received is the style in the picture and not what some other sites showed (although the color I received is actually a greenish shade.
Impression:
This bed is enormous, I knew it was raised but has not expecting this. I can sit on the edge of this bed with my feet on the ground and my knees forming a 90 degree angle (I'm 6 foot tall) Width wise it seems that this could easily fit 2 people. The pump is a little quieter than a vacuum and takes only a few minutes to fill the bed. Its incredibly comfortable for an air mattress. If money isn't an issue I suggest a mattress pad or foam topper but it is definitely not necessary to enjoy the night. The design is very supportive and I never feel as though I'll roll off. I've found that the sides bulge slightly more than the picture. As for air loss, I've only had it for a week and have found no problems. Each day I turn the pump on for about 10 seconds to compensate for the natural stretching of the plastic, I'll wait to see if this is still required after the mattress is broken in. Overall I am extremely impressed with this mattress. I have no doubt it will last the 10 weeks and it is the most comfortable air mattress I've slept on. The size is a huge benefit especially for the price.

We have a spare bedroom for guests, but occasionally we have multiple folks staying over who need separate accommodations. By shifting around some shelves in our other spare room, we have plenty of room for another bed, but we didn't want to waste all that space storing a "real" bed that we would use only infrequently.
I was originally looking for one that I had seen at a friend's place that had a metal support structure underneath it to bring it up to a "normal" bed height with an 8" mattress but soon found that those are not that common these days.
Our need was to have a bed that was as close as possible to a regular one so that guests could easily get into and out of it and so that our existing queen sized sheets would fit on it.
The internal, plug-in fans are a nice touch. I can't imagine something like this being used for camping unless you're close to a 120 volt power supply anyway so using a proper power supply (i.e. not batteries as I have seen on others) makes sense to me. Just twist the switches one way and the bed inflates (one switch per chamber - inner and outer, not upper and lower) and twist them the other way and it deflates. Any valves for sealing the bed are integrated with the switches. Leave them in the "off" position and the bed remains solidly inflated for days. If a touch-up is required (I know of none of these kinds of mattresses that remain at their firmest forever) a quick twist of the switches again and you can top it off in a minute.
For storage, the fans aggressively suck out ALL of the air so, with a bit of folding, this mattress takes up the least space possible under our other spare bed.
Absolutely a good investment for us.

This air bed is amazing. It pumps up fast and is a good size. I bought this because I have a very bad low back problem. My current mattress was making it much worse and I would wake up in a lot of pain. I know I needed a new mattress but finding the right one will take some time - but I just knew I had to stop sleeping on my old mattress. So I bought this to use until I find a mattress. I woke up feeling great! No pain at all. I love it. I am amazed. The price is great and the quality is way above the typical air mattresses you may have tried. I would highly recommend this. Maybe I won't get a new mattress and just use this one - my back feels great! Very pleased with my purchase.
Update 4/29/2010. I must come back and write more. This bed has saved my back and my life. It was supposed to be an interim solution until I found a bed to help my back pain. Well, I am still sleeping on this bed since my last review!! I do not wish to find any other bed. It holds the air amazingly! i can't live without it. I PRAY PRAY you keep making this bed and keep it in stock. Without it I wouldn't be able to walk and I would be in so much pain. I told my chiro about this bed and hope he recommends it to his patients. I can't stress enough how this bed has helped me. I was in terrible pain and had anxiety about even going to bed at night. until this bed! it is like sleeping on a cloud! I had to come back and write more on my review. I want to get another one to have on hand should anything happen to this one I am using now. This bed has been a medical miracle for me that no doctor could even come close to relieving my pain. No more pain pills or prescriptions. My prescription is this bed!!

Back in August 2010 when I was getting ready to move 300 miles south I came to Amazon looking for an air mattress to use during the move. I have a water bed and tearing it down and waiting for the move etc left me without a place to sleep for possibly a week or more. This looked good based on price and the reviews here. I received it a week before the move and when I set it up after tearing apart the water bed I was amazed at its size and comfort. I slept on it for 4 days while packing and cleaning my apartment and 3 more days at the new location getting settled in. Came time to set the water bed back up and I realized that I was just as happy sleeping on this as that. PLUS, cleaning "around" a water bed is about all you can do. With this mattress I can just lean it up against the wall and clean the whole bedroom a LOT faster. And my electric bill went down since there is no water bed heater keeping it warm 365 days a year. So now my water bed sits in the spare bedroom unassembled, possibly forever. I love this air mattress so much that I'm buying a second one for visitors and as a backup for this one. That's what led to this review, looking up the old order. So for 4 months now I've slept perfectly comfortable on this air mattress and would recommend it to all my friends and family and anyone reading this review. The Wenzel Insta-Bed is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone. It inflates and deflates very efficiently and having it 22" off the ground makes you feel like you are in a real bed. It also folds up and becomes very compact for easy storage. Having this wonderful product as changed our life in a very profound way. How is that you ask? My wife and I have recently moved after spending 14 years in a studio apt. For years we had sleeping difficulties from disturbing one another due to snoring and getting up during the night. We finally moved into a 1 bedroom after all these years but the sleeping issues continued. My wife finally suggested getting an inflatable bed and I started doing my research online. After spending time looking, the Wenzel Insta-Bed became our choice and it has been an amazing change in our life. Upon receiving the bed which arrived very quickly, I set it up in our living room and it has been wonderful. I am now sleeping on it almost every night and we are both sleeping like babies. It is amazing what a difference a good night sleep makes. It is so comfortable and can be adjusted for firmness very easily. If we leave it inflated for 2-3 days at a time it loses a little air and we just pump it up. To sum it up, we love our new Air-Bed and the good sleep it has given us.
