Customer Review: Great in-door air mattresses if the price doesn't scare you away

I researched dozens of air mattresses and slept on a few over the years. This one was by far the best I've ever slept on and it's even better paired with a two to three inch topper. I purchased a Spa Sensations Mattress 3 inch topper [1 inch memory foam and 2 inches of air foam] from [...] for about $100 after tax/shipping. Some of our guests liked the topper and others preferred to sleep on a firmer bed.
Both the air mattresses and topper had a strong plastic/rubber odor when first opened. You may want to air them out for a few days before you plan to first use them.
I originally purchased a sheet set designed to fit air mattresses but returned it because they felt too ridged and were low quality. Our normal Wamsutta queen sheet sets that claim they will fit any mattress thickness worked well and didn't come off the upper part of the raised air mattresses.
The air mattress does a great job of isolating movement from another person. It's not perfect or as isolated as a traditional mattress but I was pleasantly surprised. The topper also helped reduce the waterbed-like waves/movement. You know ...when a heavier person plops down on the air mattress and you go flying or every time they roll-around/shift at night you feel it.
The Sure-Grip didn't stick to the carpet we have but moving a few inches over a couple of days wasn't an issue. We have a little one and he enjoyed climbing all over it and bouncing around which may have caused it to slide around a little.
I was hesitant to purchase an expensive air mattress with a built-in pump because I've known pumps to break over time and air mattresses are notorious for hard to find air leaks. Either of which could have convinced me to toss the entire product. Luckily, the pump has worked great (albeit a little noisy) and I haven't noticed any leaks. If you're using it for a week or more you may need to turn the pump on to firm it up, from time to time. Irrelevant tip: If you have a hard to find air mattress leak without a built-in pump, take it to a pool with kids and tell them if they find the leak they can play on it... they'll find the leak for you! :)
It also deflates well and fits within the provided bag. Good luck trying to fit it back in the box it came with but that may be expected. If you buy a mattress topper it doesn't simply roll-up for compact storage. We keep the mattress topper on our guest bed but then have to move it when a guest prefers the firmer traditional mattress.
REI had some air mattresses with detachable pumps that used AC, Batteries or Car Cigarette lighter outlets [DC] power and some featured thick plastic/rubber to reduce punctures. If you plan to use it outside or for camping the Wenzel Insta-Bed may not be the best choice for you.
If you want a high quality air mattress for home use that can be stored away compactly and you don't mind the $120 price tag, I would highly recommend the Wenzel Insta-Bed.
