Description of WeeRide Kangaroo Child Bike Seat

Product Description The WeeRide Kangaroo Center Mounted Child Carrier offers an award-winning design that allows children to enjoy and share in the cycling experience, surrounded by your protective pair of arms. Your child is not behind you uninterested and distanced by the limited view. The child?s position also keeps the center of gravity where it belongs ? on the bicycle frame, not behind the rider. This all adds up to a more comfortable ride for the cyclist AND the passenger. The Child Carrier is mounted on an independent adjustable steel support bar that attaches firmly between the frame?s head tube and the seat post. The support bar is designed to mount on almost any bicycle. Customer contact information at 1-800-451-KENT (5368) or www.kentbicycles.com -- Safety Information - Always wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads when riding. Check all nuts and bolts for tightness before riding. For casual riding on smooth, flat, paved and dry surfaces free of sand , gravel or dirt. Do not ride at night or in areas of traffic. For children up to 40lbs, "If you need straps in a different size please call us at Kent International and we will have them shipped to you right away."
The WeeRide Kangaroo center-mounted bike seat offers an award-winning design that makes biking with your child much safer and much more fun. It's installed onto virtually any bicycle via a patent pending, independent steel support bar that attaches between the front handle bar tube and the seat post. It provides a much more enjoyable and interactive experience for the child and rider. Your child's needs can be heard, seen and attended to more easily, and he or she has a more interesting view--no more staring at someone's back. Other advantages include no dangling arms or legs to reach wheels and the rear of the bike is free to carry your gear.

The seat is made from an injection-molded plastic form, and it features a comfortable padded foam seat, height adjustable foot cups, and a fully adjustable three-point security harness. The Padded pedestal armrest sitting atop the handlebars gives children somewhere comfortable to put their hands, and can serve as a headrest for the napping toddler.

The steel support bar is an independent support system that does not interfere with brake cables or other attached bicycle gear. It includes different sizes of plastic spacers for the front yoke attachment and rear seat post to protect the posts and ensure it fits on almost any recreational bicycle available. It's easily removable for when you want to ride on your own.

It can be used with mountain/city bikes with upright handlebars (with drop-handled racing handlebars, the rider leans forward too much for the child to sit comfortably). Children should be at least 1 year old, and it has a maximum weight capacity of 40 pounds. This bike seat is designed for casual riding on smooth, flat, paved and dry surfaces free of sand, gravel or dirt.

Sports reviews of WeeRide Kangaroo Child Bike Seat

Customer Review: Much better than rear mount! But doesn't fit certain bikes!
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

My husband LOVES this seat! Our son would ask to go on bike rides in this seat. He's too big for it now at 3 years old. I think it's only for ages 1-2 or a very small 3 year old. We both have mountain bikes which don't allow enough room to attach the bar under the handlebar. My lady's bike was too short between the handles and the seat to even place it on my bike at all. We had to do a hardware store trip and modify it to fit my husband's bike-- prob not the safest thing and surely wouldn't be covered under any kind of warranty! BUT we were confident with the fit we made and it didn't budge through out months and months of happy riding!

Highly recommended! More parent/child interaction= more fun! But prob best fitted for "cruise" style bikes ONLY!

Customer Review: Great functionality, but major design flaw with straps
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

We like the functionality and design of the WeeRide, and our three year old daughter loves it. It fits both of our mountain bikes without any problem.

However, there is a very serious design flaw with the nylon webbing used to hold the child securely in the seat. The webbing falls apart after long exposure to the sun, probably because they did not use outdoor-rated webbing. Our WeeRide was stored outside on our porch, and after a few months the webbing turned into a pile of dust (literally ...) when we tried to tighten it. Every strap piece broke into little piles of fluff. If you're WeeRide has had a lot of exposure to the sun, you better check the integrity of the webbing before you find out the hard way that its deteriorated.

Customer Review: think before you buy
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I read all the reviews on this product & was convinced it would work great. What I did not consider, however, was that the seat goes right between your legs as you are pedaling. I have to bike with my knees sticking out & it is not comfortable for long rides. Also, my daughter's helmet hits me right in the chest while I'm biking (she's only 11 months). I fear that as she grows, we will need to get a different seat or a trailer. I am 5'6", so maybe it would be okay for someone taller or for men. For women my size or smaller, I would not recommend. I wish I would have considered these things before purchasing. If I could make the choice again, I would have gotten a regular baby seat that goes on the back of the bike or a trailer.

Customer Review: kid loves it, easy to install but could be improved
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

The price is about right and it is the only set-up my kid seemed to like
(as opposed to a rear mounted seat or trailer). Easy to load her in it.
It was also easy enough to mount on a mountain bike, although i was skeptical
at the one bolt that secured the seat to the cross bar mount, it seemed
unsubstantial.
Also, the straps could be easier to deal with, it would be great
if it also had foot straps.
If i could get it to slide up another inch, i wouldn't have to alter my pedaling
so my knees don't hit the back of the seat, though a slightly longer bike frame
(or shorter legs) would solve that.
In all, we are enjoying bike rides together.

Customer Review: ok, but some issues
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

my 1.5 year old daughter loves riding this. the front-mount design is great. it feels very secure and stable to have her in front of me.

now the issues: first, this was difficult to install on my specialized mountain bike. the only place for me to mount the front clamp is on the handlebar stem. unfortunately, the clamp is much larger than the stem, leaving a loose fit. i think i'll be able to get something from the hardware store to make it fit better. also, the back clamp was too big for my seat stem. however, i was able to solve this by switching the bolts front the front and rear clamps (the front bolts are larger). lastly, the plastic seat portion is a bit flimsy.
