About Victorinox
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Sports reviews of Victorinox SwissTool Spirit Multi-Tool with Pouch

Customer Review: The best, seriously
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have had the chance to use some of the other top models by Gerber and Leatherman. Take my word for it, the SwissTool is in a higher class than any others. The level of precision engineering is unparalleled by other brands. The action is super-smooth and the tools are all super-sharp and ridiculously durable. This is a perfect blend of beauty and functionality. Others have mentioned the lack of removable pins, which is a slight disadvantage. Other than that, I personally believe this multi-tool to be the best in its class. I use this tool everyday many times and it takes a beating, but still functions like it did when I first bought it. Worth every penny, even at full retail price, in my opinion.

Customer Review: the serrated square blade
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

There are lots of opinions on the tools, but I just wanted to comment on the large knife. Many don't like the change, but the reason Victorinox made it a square blade is because the tips will break off on their pointy blades. I've had it happen a couple of times, and you can see in their lifetime warranty form that its one of the more common problems people have.

The way they fix this btw is to just grind the tip back into shape, past the point where it broke off. You could probably grind a tip into the SwissTool blade too, although I wouldn't.

If you need a pointy tip, thats what the awl is for. Its thicker and stronger than knife blade tip.

Customer Review: Best of two worlds.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Over the last 50 years I have tried every multi-tool that hit the market. Most of the good ones were at least in the $50.00 to $175.00 range. The Leatherman Crunch is a must but I had to carry a Vitorinox Champ the get the other needed tools. This Vitorinox multi-tool has put it all together.
Of course, I carry it along with my Crunch. Ever try to tighten a nut and bolt when you can only secure one side? With these two on my belt I can repair 90% of the every day "fix its" with dragging out my tool box. This is a well thought out, well made tool that is worth every penny and then some. By the way, 26 of those 50 years was in the army and in the boonies.

Customer Review: Excelent
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I am very pleased with this Tool, I own a Gerber Diesel and I have to say that I like the finish of the victorinox way more. I havent been able to use it as much to rate its performance but it feels sturdy as well. I like that you can get the tools from the handle without opening the whole pliers, as in the Gerbers, but in the other hand i like the one hand opening mechanism of the Diesel for the pliers (which i use alot)
I wouldnt know wich to choose if I had to make a desicion, thats why i bought both ;). I absolutely recomend this product. Hope you enjoy your Victorinox!

Customer Review: Slimmer, Trimmer, Sexy, SwissTool
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have had the original SwissTool for a few years it is practaly industructable. I wanted somthing smaller and lighter, so when Victorinox came out with Spirit I got one. It is a nice tool It has most of what it's big brother has with less mass. I also would like a straight blade. I like the bend in the handle, it feels right. The Spirit is well desined with all the tools on the outside. The locking mechinisum works great, very safe. I hope that the Spirit will be as durable as the original SwissTool. Victorinox & Swiss Army Brand have a great warrenty Program so no problems.
