About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

I lost my little Swiss Army knife & needed a replacement, so ordered the combo set. Received it timely & in good shape. This was a replacement for the Army Tinker that I lost about a month ago. To get an additional Classic Swiss Army Knife in the combo was a great bargain. The Tinker is easy to carry in my pocket, and very, very handy when one snags a fingernail, and other minor emergencies, not to mention it's handy ivory toothpick. For just a bit more than the cost of the Classic knife itself, you also get the Tinker. The Tinker is a bit large for the pocket, but it's great for the glovebox or a bicycle bag. The Tinker has all the basic tools needed, and they are all sturdy. The Classic knife goes with me always on my key ring. I can't imagine being without that knife.Customer Review: Wonderful knife

I have carried one of these knives for at least 30 years. I had gotten one for my son several years ago and he recently lost it. This is a Christmas gift replacement. He just called today, 02/23/2010 to tell me he just found the one that was lost. Now he has a spare. He also liked the Classic knife. When I was younger I remember that my old man was always prepared; cash, hankerchief and a Swiss Army Knife. I've used the knock offs, but there is no replacing the original. This is a great product if you fancy yourself as someone who likes to be prepared, and are the "go to guy" for all things tools and tinkering.
