Description of Victorinox Swiss Army Special Etched Soldier Knife with Collector's Book

All encased in a stylish stainless steal handle. The Swiss Amy Knives, A Collector's Companion book by Derek Jackson is a colorful, highly illustrated monograph that examines all aspects of the Original Swiss Army Knife; after introductory sections on the history of knives and the Swiss Army, the story unfolds from the first knives - the Soldier's Knife and Officer's Knife produced by Karl Elsener for the Swiss Army.
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army knife a century ago comes this complete set of all-purpose handy tools--all neatly contained in a single implement that measures just 3-1/2 inches (91 millimeters) long. Sheathed in silver, the Soldier is a convenient toolbox small enough to fit into a pocket. A valued companion, this pocket knife contains seven stainless-steel tools and carries a lifetime warranty against defects. The tools include a large knife blade, can opener, small screwdriver, bottle opener, large screwdriver, wire stripper, and reamer. And, for the true Swiss Army fan, this set also includes Swiss Army Knives: A Collector's Companion by Derek Jackson, a hardcover illustrated book documenting every aspect of Swiss Army knives.

About Swiss Army Knives: A Collector's Companion by Derek Jackson
There are certain objects that rise above the norm and become icons - instantly recognisable for their simplicity of design, striking appearance and ease of operation. Victorinox's Original Swiss Army Knife is just such an icon. The knife in its many forms has sold in millions all over the World. When advertising departments want to associate their product with reliability and functionality they go for an image that's instantly recognisable - and the symbol they often choose is Victorinox's distinctively red, multi-bladed knife.

An international name today, Victorinox's beginnings were very parochial, the factory is still based in the small hamlet of Schwyz and employs local people. Although there has inevitably been some mechanisation over the years the knives are still assembled by hand.

This colorful, highly illustrated book examines all aspects of the Swiss Army Knife from the first Officers Knife produced for the Swiss Army to the latest Milennium Cyberitool. There are chapters on the manufacturing process, the variety of blades and tools and a gallery of old and new knives which appear in a wide variety of styles, with plenty to interest the collector.

About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Customer Review: Where's the etched knife???
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This knife is not etched as described in the descriptions!
WTF not cool. What a waste of time. Amazon shame on you for not quality checking your products!

UPDATE!!!!!!

So I called Amazon and told them that my knife was not etched. They sent me a new knife and this one has the etch. The stock number on the box that is correct reads"53939 Soldier 61 BOX" The bad one reads "53929 Soldier Silver Alox" Off by desc and 1 digit on the stock number. I think maybe the people who pulled the items from stcok were drunk at the time. Any now if you do not have the etched knife , call and get it replaced with the correct one!

Customer Review: Also (initially) received with no blade stamp - Amazon did good
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The knife I received, like the reviewer before me, did not have the "1 in 5000" commemorative stamp. Its collector value is greatly reduced without it. I got it for a heavily discounted price, so I will not return it, but I'm pretty disappointed. The knife itself is great...but I already have others like it...and made this purchase for the commemorative value. Amazon let me down...not Victorinox.

*** Amazon made this right, in the end, after I called customer service. They shipped me the right knife. Thanks Amazon.

Customer Review: Victorinox Swiss Army Special
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The Victorinox Swiss Army Soldier Special knife was a Christmas present for my son which I had been looking for over a long period of time before Christmas. I felt fortunate to find it on Amazon. When it was received I found that I had not only gotten what I wanted at a good price but that it contained an excellent history of Victorinox knives. This was an excellent package for the money. My son really likes it. Again Amazon kept their word on delivery.

Customer Review: a better SA Knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Knife is a better quality than usual SA (which is, btw, excellent!)! it's heavier due to ss shell and the blade and other tools (aka bottle opener :) !) are much thicker than regular SA knife - and - YES - it is a limited edition piece / had one years back (lost it :( !) in quality and precision it is on par with their top of the line multi-tools (the best you can buy!) - yet, it is a basic knife!!! :) good luck!

Customer Review: Life long use and more
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

My grandpa used this model knife and now I have as well for 20 years now. So when I heard they discontinuing this model I had to get another. This is hands down the best quality folding utility knife one can carry. Durable strong steel sharpens well and will last a life time. Never buy a chiness or Pakistan knife again. Use only Swiss knives. Mine came etched with no problems and the book is way cool.
