About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Soldier Pocket Knife (Silver Alox)

Customer Review: Best Swiss Army Knife Ever Made
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

In my opinion, this is the best Swiss Army knife ever made. It is the sturdiest of all the knives, and has only the necessary tools. Perfect for camping/backpacking, and as a gift to friends and family.

PROS:

-The knife blade is longer and thicker (sturdier) than the knife blades on other Swiss Army knife models.
-Aluminum Handles. The classic red plastic handles on the other models will eventually crack and fall off after a few years of regular use. The aluminum sides on this knife will never break, and they offer superior grip.
-Compact and Lightweight.
-It's the official army knife of Swiss soldiers, so it must be good!

CONS:

1. The reamer may not be very useful for many people. However, it has many other uses if you get creative.

Customer Review: Incredible Knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I received this knife as a gift from my Swiss sister in law 15 YEARS AGO, and it's a real gem without a trace of rust or wear! The blades are VERY SHARP and although I can't say I use it on a daily basis, I would dare say it would take a lot to dull them, it is surely made of high-quality tempered steel. I have even let friends etch and bore on rocks with the boring tool and it still has a nice pointy tip on it. It doesn't wiggle or slip, the blades stay in place when extended and snap right back into the sleeve the same way they did the first time I opened it it.

If you are looking for a quality knife at a reasonable price I highly recommend this knife for the Scout or outdoorsman in your family.

Customer Review: The Soldier
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This is a GREAT knife. I won't go into any detail concerning the features, quality, size, etc. because that's been amply covered by other reviewers. The reviews here are very helpful, and certainly contributed greatly to my decision to buy this knife. I've never owned a Victorinox knife before, so I wasn't quite sure what to think about them.

Let me just say that I HAVE owned dozens of pocketknives over the years, virtually every one of them more expensive than the Soldier, and I believe that the Soldier will now be the knife that I carry on a daily basis. It's THAT good!!! The features, quality and size are perfect in my opinion. All this in a $22 knife! Unbelievable!

Customer Review: This is the real thing. Excellent Swiss Army Knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

If you are looking for the real thing then this it. This was the official swiss army knife issued to the swiss army from 1964 to 2007. A new model has been commissioned for the army, but this soldier model is still the preferable model for the average joe. The Alox styling is classic, elegant and durable. The blades are all excellent quality and has just the right balance between amount of tools and size. It doesn't give you anything you don't need and gives you just what you do.

The tradition of carrying pocket knives is dying, but hopefully you can help keep it alive. Give this a purchase and throw it in your pocket or book bag. Everyone should have one of these.

Customer Review: Best pocket knife in the world!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

One of these fine knives has been carried in my pocket for most of the last twenty+ years. I'm on my second one, having lost the first a couple of years ago.
They hold an edge well and can be used for everything from working on my Harley to cutting up vegetables and opening cans for dinner.
I often grab this from my pocket before looking for any other knife in the kitchen.
The reamer is useful if you are, like me, a chronic dieter who needs to adjust his belt periodically. This knife is the handiest tool you can own and is virtually indestructible. Just keep it sharp and oil the hinges and it will provide years of loyal service.
