About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.
Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Ranger Pocket KnifeCustomer Review: gold box item Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
this is a handy all purpose knife! i got it for $3 from amazon during the infamous customers vote of '06 and it's still going strong! The main blade is razor sharp and is really good for opening those annoying as hell thick plastic packages. i am really glad i got it and couldn't ask for a better knife for the price.
Customer Review: Very satisfied. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Just like every other purchase from Amazon, I have been very satisified with yet another purchase. I bought this to gift to my creative genius friend who always needs small tools like these for just about anything. Its really compact like I thought and very stylish!!
Overall, I'm very happy with it. : )
Customer Review: Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have several Swiss Army knives. This was the first one in this size that I have purchased. The quality of the Victorinox knives is always first rate. The combination of tools on their knives is always fun to behold. Where else can you get a knife with a saw blade and a cork screw and put it in a pocket?
Customer Review: A surprisingly good gift Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I gave this to my son for Christmas 2006 and despite many other gifts that were eagerly anticipated and cost much more, this is the one he talks about and uses the most. 'Like carrying a toolkit in your pocket' is a typical comment, a very useful gift for the college-bound or budding handyman or handywoman.
