Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Pioneer Pocket KnifeCustomer Review: Sturdy and practical
I have several SAK's that I have used, and I have to say that this one is one of the most practical of them all. To save wear on the main blade I use the awl to open the hard plastic packaging. It also makes clean holes through leather, wood, or pretty much anything. The blade itself is larger and sturdier than the ones that come on the red plastic models, and while the steel is softer than some knives, it is easy to sharpen to a razor sharp edge. I consider this is the "tank" of SAK's because the metal handles make it really durable. It is so much tougher than other great knives like the tinker or bantam or even the adventurer. The other tools are also extremely useful. I hardly ever look in a kitchen drawer for a can opener anymore because the one that comes with this knife is excellent. Once you use it once or twice, it becomes second nature, and it also doubles as a #2 Phillips. I have used the flat screwdriver to turn screws and pry the lids off of paint cans. This sure beats using your only blade to do those jobs.

About Victorinox
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.
