About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade Pocket Knife (Black)

Customer Review: Great, As Expected.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I had a Victorinox knife as a kid and loved it. Lately I was always finding myself needing a knife, or simple screw driver, around the house. This knife really fits the bill. A couple of basic tools, easy to use, and the swiss build quality is top notch.

The one hand opening of the blade works better than I even thought it would. Great design, and the black look is unique among swiss knives.

Very Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Great knife - Too big
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I ignored the feedback from other purchasers that this knife was a little too big for daily use - that's my fault. The knife is excellent, however it is probably about 3/4 of an inch longer than my last one and it hangs a little too heavy in my pocket. If there were a version of this that was a little bit shorter but had the same functions (minus the saw - I don't need that), then the knife would be perfect for me.

Customer Review: Good knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

It's a might bit bigger than I thought it would be, but it is a nice size for larger pockets. The serrated portion of the blade is handy and the flat portion keeps its edge nicely. Take extra caution when closing it with one hand as I've already sliced my thumb once and come close a number of times. It seems the placement of the lock-release doesn't give much room for a thumb to move.

Customer Review: Great Size
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

These are very practical knives. Good selection of blades and a size that can really do some work. This is my second, I lost the first. :-( If I lose this one I will buy a third. If you want to be a bit more compact you can get the one that isn't the "one-hander", although it does make it easy to open the blades even with two hands if you're cold, old, or wearing mittens!

Customer Review: Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This is the frist swiss army knife I enjoy having on me all the time. I hunt 4 months out of the year and there is always a need to have a knife on you. The lock blade is fantastic and has the perfect number of tools. I would like to have another smaller blade with the knife but I cant complain. The black outer finish is very durrable and will hold up over time.
