About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

Customer Review: Great Knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I bought this knife about 4 weeks ago and it has not left my pocket yet. I have found so many uses for this knife. When camping its locking blade is perfect for eating and everything else you need a good blade for. The main reason I purchased this knife is for its locking blade it will not allow you to accidentally close it causing injury to anyone. I also like that the bottle opener/flat head screwdriver locks as well. Most of the tool is like any other pocket knife however the phillips screwdriver is a T-handle design so it will not squeeze into any tight spaces. In most cases the small flat head will do the job but sometimes it is very inconvenient not to have a good phillips screwdriver.

Customer Review: One handed handy
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

It took me weeks of searching around different sporting and merchandise stores to find what I was looking for. I was looking for a pocket knife with a decent size blade that locks and you can open it with one hand. At the same time I wanted some utility tools like a saw, screw driver, and something I could use instead of my finger nail to open tight wrapings and etc. Let me tell you. You cannot beat Victornox when it comes to sharpness and quality. Its not too big and definately not too small. I'm glad Victornox made a locking blade pocket knife and this is the one. I am very happy with it. And the price cannot be beat. I've seen much cheaper knives with lesser quality cost more.

Customer Review: A versatile if slightly larger SAK
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I love the locking blade, and I love how it can be opened with one hand (the other is usually whatever it is you need to cut, right?). I also love the fact that the flat-head screwdriver locks when it's open, saving your hand from the accidental snap-pinch you can get while using it on other models. The weight and feel of this knife are pefect too. The only downside is it's slightly larger proportions. This is longer than the 3 1/2" models, and it makes a difference. If you're planning on carrying this in your pocket, it needs to be one of the only things in there. Still, if your lifestyle demands a slightly more rugged SAK than usual, this is a great choice.

Customer Review: Excellent overall knife.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I had owned this knife for over 1 year now, but didn't do anything much other than cutting tape and cardboard, occasionally thick plastic (the serration helps a lot when in awkward positions). Most of the tools on it also works very well and functional, as expected by a product by Victorinox. The only problem is that the thumb hole is made poorly and hard for a fast deployment (too bad a perfect circle is copyrighted by Spyderco). If you are looking for a EDC but emergency tactical blade, this is not the best choice. But for a EDC but outdoor survival, this is one of the better choices.
P.S. this blade lacks a pocket clip, making it hard to carry it.

Customer Review: Great for the backpacker
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I had a multi-tool (swiss-army style) knife before but when the blade finally snapped down to bite me, I wanted a locking blade. I didn't think that I would be able to find a swiss-army knife with the locking blade but the Trekker came out. Larger blade, fewer gadgets that you don't use. It has a toothpick ..which I like to have with the in the backwoods ...and a locking blade! Comes with a small saw blade, bottle opener, and a can opener. the screwdriver heads are nice but not extremely useful (especially the phillips head).

It could use a nice selection of leather pouches to go with it ...that would be my only complaint.
