I've had mine for about 30 years now. It was given to me, second hand, so I'm not even the original owner. No telling how old this thing really is.
Mine is so old, it doesn't have the tweezer or toothpick. No. Not because I lost it. But simply because back then, this model didn't come with it. It may have even had another name back then.
There's no way of knowing, of course, unless you happen to be some sort of Swiss Army historian. On one side of the large blade, it is marked "VICTORINOX SWITZERLAND STAINLESS ROSTEREI". The other side is marked, "OFFICIER SUISSE".
These days, I carry a Leatherman on my Sam Brown belt. However, this little puppy will soon again see service as I clean & sharpen it. Some lucky little family member will get this along with the Western L66 that I got with this knife.
For those who remember, the Swiss Army & Western combination was essentially what most Boy Scouts were equipped with. Real relics. For those who collect knives, you're sure to know that Western is now out of business after nearly a century of producing cutlery that was handed down from one generation to the next.
I now have the task of carrying on that tradition. It's now time for me to part with these mementos so that the next generation in my family could carve out their own memories.
