About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Deluxe Tinker, Red

Customer Review: Best pocket knife on the market
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have owned several SAK, but this is by far the best. All of the tools on the deluxe tinker are useful, and although a little heavy, it can very easily be carried as an everyday pocket knife. The first deluxe tinker was a gift from my wife. I had ask for a super tinker, but at the urging of our 6 year old son she bought the deluxe. My first thought was I will never use the pliers...there're to small to be of any use and just make the knife bigger and heavier. Now I know, the pliers are what makes this knife a cut above the others. They can be used to turn the smallest screw or change a tire. Best pocket knife made.

Customer Review: Universal Pocket Tool for the 21st Century
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Ok first off let me start by saying I have had one of these Victorinox SAK Deluxe Tinker's for about 20 years now and it recently got misplaced only later to be recorded as M.I.A. Therefore this one is a replacement. What could I say about this SAK that hasn't already been said.... It's compact lightweight and most of all it has all the tools I tend to use on a day to day basis. If you don't need the pliers which IMHO are only good for getting things snug not tightening a bolt on your car engine or anything so if you don't just that particular tool go for the super tinker it still has the larger sized scissors.

Customer Review: Best Knife I have ever used
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have used and abused the Victorinox versions of the Swiss Army knife over the last 20 years. I use to install intercom and sound systems, from the saw blade to cut drywall, to cutting wires with the scissors, to cleaning contacts with the file, picking up drooped screws with the tweezers. I have Never had one break! ( lost a lot, dropped them from the top of grain elevators and could not find them, the last I had to surrender at the airport!) There might be better, I've stopped looking, the blades hold an edge, even after cutting hundreds of cardboard boxes, and being used as pry bars!

Customer Review: very useful
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The deluxe tinker has several components that I find remarkably useful. The pliers are great for little fiddly tasks that come up almost daily. I use the scissors frequently also for little snips on paper, tape, etc. I find the Phillips-head screwdriver much more useful than a corkscrew.

I have been pleased with the overall quality of the Victorinox "Swiss Army" brand. I have never had any of the blades rust and the plastic on the casing has often lasted me a decade or so of hard use before cracking.

On the whole, these are great products and very useful.

Customer Review: Great gift
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I got this for my husband as a gift. He really enjoyed it, it has everything a man could need on an emergency without being overly big and bulky.
I opted for this one since it didnt have the cortscrew and had something else in place which he has found much more useful.

Great present for those who are hard to shop for
