Description of Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD Pocket Knife, Red

Classic / Red Swiss Army knife
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army knife a century ago comes this classic version of the pocket knife. It contains six tools that put life in order again when they're needed. Measuring just 2-1/4 inches long--less than a pack of gum--and sheathed in red plastic, the Classic pocket knife is a toolbox and manicure kit small enough to fit into a pocket. (It also comes with a key ring.) Stainless-steel tools contained inside are a knife blade, scissors, a nail file with a screwdriver tip, a removable plastic toothpick, and removable tweezers. --Fred Brack

Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD Pocket Knife, Red

Customer Review: You have got to read the description!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have read most of the reviews, and ALL of the 1, 2 and 3 star. This is a review of the CLASSIC SD. There is no corkscrew, and there is no bottle opener. IT'S NOT THAT MODEL OF SWISS ARMY KNIFE!!!!! This is the CLASSIC. It deserves the name as it if far-and-away the MOST popular model ever produced by Victorinox. Some of these reviews remind me of the old joke: "No one goes to that restaurant anymore....It's always too crowded". Here are the tools you will find on the CLASSIC SD...the 2.25" key chain model.
1. A small sharp pen knife blade...You can't cut down a tree with it, or take a hammer to it and cut a masonry nail in half, but you can open a letter, a package, do some minor surgery, etc. You can even sterilize it in your dishwasher, or leave it in your pants for the wash. It will only improve it. 2. A little milled nail file. It works well and lasts a long time. The tip of this tool is now "squared off" to make a small screw driver. That's where the "SD" comes in. It's gently machined so you can still use it to get the gunk out from under your nails. 3. There is a little pair of scissors. Cut a stray hair, clip a coupon, trim a hang nail. It's not wallpaper shears, but for snip, snip, they can't be beat. And when they eventually get dull, they can easily be resharpened by an expert. Not true of the Wenger, by the way. 4. There is the tweezers. They are made of tempered spring steel, and are precise. They are great for removing splinters, and so much more. 5. And the toothpick. So durable, and tapered. I don't think they could make it any better for the average joe. 6. Last there is a lanyard ring. It's not big enough to hang keys on, but that ring is just right to attach to your key ring, or, by god, a lanyard!
Remember this is the RED CLASSIC SD, made in Switzerland by VICTORINOX. It comes in all kinds of colors, but please, don't paint all little knives with the same brush. "Copies" have flooded the marketplace, imported from China. They are NOT the same. Not even close.

Customer Review: If you are going to carry a pocket knife, this is it
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I am unable to imagine myself going somewhere without my Swiss Army knife (except a plane, of course). This 2 1/4 inch all-purpose tool is always on my key ring, and is useful for about 70 or 80% of those cases where you need some sort of tool but the tool box is inaccessible.

This gem has a tooth pick, a pair of tweezers, a sharp knife, a nail file, a screwdriver formed on the end of the nail file, and a pair of scissors. I have probably used the knife and the scissors more than any other tools.

The knife and the tweezers are useful for splinters and thorns, and thus the tweezers often become the third most useful tool. I must admit that occasionally I use the toothpick, particularly when real toothpicks are not available.

The screwdriver is small enough that it can also fit into a Phillips head screw. I have even been able to use the flat blade on some small hex head screws.

The difficulty with carrying tools is that they can fill your pocket very quickly. This small Swiss Army knife is small enough to fit into a purse or a pocket and yet large enough to be useful. While the larger Swiss Army knives have even more and larger tools and blades, they are also harder to carry. Of course this particular knife will not replace a tool box, but I find it amazing how many tasks I can accomplish with the simple tools available in this gem.

Customer Review: The classic still a sentimental and useful favorite
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have been a collector of pocket knives since I was a kid and I'm always doing something around the house, needing to file a nail, tweeze a splinter, cut off some twine or open a letter. I bought one of these years and years ago in the train station at Zurich with my leftover change and I have it to this day...

The knife takes a bit of sharpening--the type of steel used is resistant to rust and holds its shine, but it also makes it a bit more difficult to hold an edge. Nonetheless, with a good sharpening stone and some care, you can make a fine edge useful for opening letters, cutting twine or cutting open a box.

This version contains six tools, including the knife blade, scissors, nail file with screwdriver on the end, plastic toothpick, tweezers and lanyard/key ring attachment. If you attach a string to the ring, you can use the pocketknife as a makeshift plumb bob.

This is a small knife, just 2-1/4 inches long, so it fits flat in a pocket or purse. I personally like to have a corkscrew and Philips screwdriver as well, but that is on a larger model that doesn't fit so well in the back pocket of your trousers. Since this is so small, don't forget to remove it from your pants pocket before you head to the airport, as passengers are no longer permitted to board with such items.

Customer Review: Great Gift & Everyday Tool for Yourself
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have had one of these on my key chain for over 15 years now; it's only been replaced 3 times and I use it almost daily. It comes with a removable plastic toothpick and tweezers. I love having a toothpick handy after eating out somewhere and the tweezers work very well. The tweezers do not have the strongest grip because they are very thin and therefore a bit flexible, but I have never had them fail to work and they have very sharp edges for getting out the finest hair and/or splinter.

The knife and fingernail file/screwdriver are obviously useful in many instances; the only problem I've ever had is that if you are trying to remove/loosen a very tight screw it might close on you if you press too hard. The implements do not 'lock' into place, so you have to use some caution.

The scissors were originally my primary reason for purchasing these and are fine enough to help trim your cuticles and strong enough for smaller cuts. They are definitely not super strong but definitely cut paper and thin plastic easily.

Overall, these are a terrific gift for just about anyone and a great purchase for yourself. I've seen them in the store for upwards of $14 but you can get these for less frequently on sale at Amazon.

Customer Review: A Tool For All Seasons....
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

After a number of years living out on the ragged edge of civilized society in the rural reaches of southern New Hampshire, I have learned the practical wisdom of always having a utility knife in my pocket. I have several of these Swiss Army pocket knives(one in the otherwise unused ashtrays of each vehicle, and one in my Land's End briefcase)and always have one on me personally. I cannot tell you how often I have used one to do everything from pick away the remnants of a sliver from my somewhat leery granddaughter's thumb to opening a bottle of diet soda on a hot summer afternoon. It truly is a tool dfor all seasons, whether one uses it to pick away the ice from one's car door lock on an icy frigid morn or to snip off the tag from some flip-flops at the local Eastern Mountain Sports shop so you could walk around without being burdened by shoes or socks on a scorching day in the local hamlet of Peterborough. Having everything the common guy or girl needs in a pinch (knife blades, scissors, nail file, screwdriver, toothpick, and tweezers, and also has a key ring for one's car or house key. I have them in a variety of colors, but the one I usually carry is candy apple red! Enjoy!
