About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Classic Pocket Knife

Customer Review: Great little item
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

My old one got confiscated at the airport when I forgot to take it off my keyring. The TSA agent had it out of my carry-on and off my keychain before I could say "huh?" So these things must pop up on their scanners all the time. It was old and scratched and missing its toothpick, so I said I'd just get another. I got it in green, and I like the shamrock on my new one. These tools can't be beat for snipping an errant button thread during a boring meeting or opening another box from Amazon. I hope I remember to take this off my keyring before my next flight.

Customer Review: A great little knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I got mine 30 years from a Heathkit promotion. It has been with me all over the world on vacation.

The scissors spring broke about ten years ago.

I just noticed the lifetime warranty mentioned in the deal of the day today here at Amazon. I went to the Victorinox website and picked up the return info.

Sending it back this week. I'll let you know how the warranty works.

P.S. Every other part of this knife is still in great shape.

In about 6 weeks I got MY knife back with a new spring. Incredible!!

Customer Review: Insanely handy
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Just a tad longer than a house key and barely noticeable on your keychain, it's all the stuff you need in a pinch: a razor-sharp blade, small screwdriver, file, scissor, tweezer, and toothpick. I've used it to open packages, cut rope, strip wire, dress wounds, screw, pry, trim and cut paper and cloth, remove splinters and glass from skin, pick teeth, etc., etc. Right there in your pocket just when you need it -- outrageously handy and durable. My first one endured over 15 years of frequent use. Simply one of life's necessities.

Customer Review: A Great Little Knife, but a Dangerous Weapon
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I keep my long lived and indispensable Swiss Army Knife on a keyring clipped to a belt loop on my pants, so it is always with me. On a recent vacation I remembered to remove it when flying out of Logan but unfortunately forgot to pack it in checked baggage before going through security at San Francisco International for the return flight. The TSA guys did their jobs and confiscated it (I would have been worried if they hadn't). So I'm ordering a new one. I hope someone at SFO gets as much use from my old one as I did.

Customer Review: Great little gadget well worth the price.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I got this knife for $9. It has a nail file, small knife, scissors, toothpick and a tweezers. I attach it with my key ring and carry it with me in my pocket all the time. It does come in handy occasionally. I rarely use the tweezers since it is pretty small and I don't find it as handy. However, all the other ones are decent, especially the knife. The blade is unexpectedly sharp. The built quality is great. This is a great gadget and I high recommend it.
