About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Classic Pocket Knife

Customer Review: Very useful
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I own several other Victorinox Swiss Army Knives I bought 20+ years ago. I have wanted this knife since I was a kid in the mid-late '80's, but for some reason never bought this one till now. I have had this on my key chain for about 2 months now and I use it all the time. I got white, which was probably a mistake, because the white shows all the dirt and scratches very well. I've only had it two months but it already looks a couple years old.

I have a couple small complaints about it. The toothpick seems too flimsy compared to my older knives, it's barely usable. And I have had a small chunk of the plastic on the body of the knife break off already. Yeah, its in my pocket with my keys all day, but as a kid I was hard on my old Victorinox knives and never broke the plastic on the handle.

Overall a very useful tool, and I am surprised the price is so low.

Customer Review: Classic for a reason
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Each year, I give these little classic knives as gifts to an assortment of people. With the restrictions on knives on aircraft now, they are always appreciated. Since owning and using these on a daily basis for many years, I have yet to have one break or be problematic. I do oil the hinges every year or so at least, more when the knife is used often. It's the most basic knife without bells and whistles and I love it. They are offered in a wide variety of colors and patterns and usually can be found for $10 or less. The Victorinox Swiss Army Classic Pocket Knife is the best in it's class and at the low cost, it's not heartbreaking when one is lost. It's also nice to have a couple on hand in the gift box for the times when someone compliments mine -- I give it away and know that I have a replacement at home.

Customer Review: overall a very functional, easy to carry knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This particular pocketknife has become one of my personal favorites for many reasons. it's small size might make it appear to be a sissy, but it will out do any single blade or three-blade pocketknife of comparable dimension with it's extra utilitarian options.
I find the knife very useful as a letter opener, and it's extremely sharp right out of the box. The scissors are always useful for many different reasons, and i use these often as well. The nail file, i don't use as much but occasionally, i will either use to (of course) file my nails, or to sand wood. As in every swiss army knife, the tweezers and toothpick are in this model and tend to be very useful for various reasons. To sum it all up, this is a great knife for the price and i highly recommend it

Customer Review: A top Knotch pocket knife
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This is a great pocket knife and comes in very handy. I've had mine for nearly 8 years and have only just snapped the scredriver blade. Whilst you probably have yours on your keyring.

DO NOT try to carry it on the plane or pack it in your bag as hand luggage! Unclip it from your keyring and put it in your plane luggage to be checked!

Great pair of scissors that work, handy toothpick and tweezers and the nail file does work to a small degree. The blade depending on use only needs to be sharpened once in a while.

It is surpring how frequently this little item will be used - nearly daily, especially with the tooth pick and off threads that need to be snipped!

Customer Review: It's just as it says - a classic
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

It's this knife and its predecessors that started the illustrious line of SAKs (Swiss Army Knives), and the rush to create the finest SAK replicas. While many have done well, none quite match the quality of the original. This truly is a classic design that has survived throughout the decades for a reason, a reason you'll understand from the time you lay your hands on your own to when you notice the enamel casing starting to crack 20-something long years later. For that kind of quality, at this kind of a price...it's a steal.

Allow me to reiterate. Don't settle for Wenger or some other knock-off brand. Go with the original Swiss company that started it all - Victorinox.
