Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. Such care is unmatched, and is why the Champ series is recognized by such international experts as the New York Museum of Modern Art and the State Museum of Applied Art in Munich, both of which have selected it for their "excellence in design" collections. About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.
Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus Pocket KnifeCustomer Review: Many uses... Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This is my favorite Swiss army knife because it has a bit more than most other knifes. I like most of the tools, but I could have done without the fish descaler and the hook. The saw is perfect for camping, for many uses. And you also have all the handy gadgets you like on a knife: different screwdrivers, scissors, nail file, tweezers, toothpick and punch as well as your basic, essential knife blades. I've had one of these for many years, and have used it all over the world.
Remember to carry a sharpening tool with you as well as the blades need frequent re-sharpening to be in top shape.
I found a great solution to cleaning the lint/ food that gets lodged in the grooves of the handle. I simply throw it in one of those ultrasonic jewelry cleaners that you can get on amazon for around 20 bucks and it keeps on shining like new! Overall worth way more than you pay for it!
Customer Review: Perfectly designed and built Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This is the best multi-tool I have ever had. It is perfectly designed, with all the tools easily accessible. The quality of this Swiss Army knife is better than I ever thought it would be.
I've owned two Swiss Army knives in the past (little junk ones), and the quality of those were not really that great, but this Champion Plus model is incredible. You can feel the quality when you use the tools, and you know it's designed to last a lifetime. And if it doesn't you know you've got a lifetime warranty to back you up.
My only complaint is not with the knife, but with the pictures provided on [...] of it. They do not show the thinkness in any of the pictures. It's thicker than it appears in the pictures, which for some people may be important. It feels fine carrying it around though.
If you're looking for a great multi-tool, I definitely recommend this one.
Customer Review: Ultimate Knife Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've taken this knife on two camping trips so far and it has proven to be an necessary tool. This is replacing a "Camper" model (Thanks TSA!). I probably would have upgraded to this model anyway.
Tools I have used: The saw, it really rips through branches, the file, both blades, the can opener, corkscrew, scissors, the "hook thingy" (handy for carrying bundles of firewood), and the Phillips screwdriver. I anticipate using all the features eventually. This knife has earned a permanent home in my car. Much like the old credit card ads: "Don't leave home without it!"
It's size allows for pocket carrying, barely. I wouldn't want to carry it all day every day, but when I need to carry it, it can be in my pants pocket comfortably.
I have been a life long user of Victorinox knives and highly recommend this for anyone considering it. Buy it, you can't go wrong!
Customer Review: One of my favorites Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have several knives, some which I can't locate. I always know where this one is because it's one of my favorites. With the exception of pliers, this knife does all that I generally need and it is comfortable in the hand. Although the little pen isn't very easy to use, I like to know that it's there if needed. The hook has come in very handy for grocery bags that tend to dig into the hand. I try to oil the blades regularly to keep them moving with ease and I also sharpen the blades but don't over-sharpen them. I have had to return Swiss Army knives in the past for replacement from the very reliable company, but this one is holding up just fine. Although it contains more tools than others, it isn't really much larger and doesn't weigh a ton. I'll eventually get a case for this. Made great gifts, too, when Amazon offered them at incredible prices!
Customer Review: Invaluable to have around Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Not much to say, except that a Swiss Army knife is a darned handy thing to have around, and that the Victorinox brand is well worth the slight increase in cost over no-name brands. This is the first big SAK I've bought in many years; a hotel chambermaid made off with my old one. This model doesn't have the pliers, but I often have a Leatherman around also, and it *does* have the scissors, which are darned handy, more often than I would have expected. The Victorinox line--at least, every one I've owned and that's a handful--are exceedingly well made and with a little care, will last a LONG time (unless you hit a hotel with a crooked chambermaid.) I've got at least one of these, or some combination of a SAK and a Leatherman, in my satchel when I'm working and in my camera bag when I'm on vacation. How could you live without one?
