Description of Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus Pocket KnifeFrom the renowned company that created the Swiss Army Knife a century ago comes the Champion Plus, a complete set of tools for campers, hikers, hunters, fishers, picnic enthusiasts, and people all trades--all neatly contained in a single implement. Measuring just 3-1/2 inches long, the Champion Plus is stylishly cased in the famous red Swiss Army body that's recognized around the world. More importantly, the pocket knife contains 30 stainless-steel tools appropriate for just about any occasion. The standard camping tools include a large blade, a small blade, a corkscrew, a can opener, a bottle opener, a small screwdriver, a large screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, scissors, tweezers, and a toothpick. And that's just the beginning, as the Champion Plus also offers a punch reamer, multipurpose hook, wood saw, fish scaler, and hook disgorger. In short, there's no better accessory for camping, hunting, and fishing trips. Should the basic tools not cut it, the Champion Plus steps up with a host of extras, including a metal file, metal saw, fine screwdriver, mini screwdriver, and chisel scraper. Add in such tools as a ruler, nail file, nail cleaner, magnifying glass, pressurized ball point pen, straight pen, sewing eye, and key ring and you're well equipped for everything from repairing holes in tents to reading the fine print on instructions. As with all Victorinox items, the Champion Plus is made to exacting standards, with 60-plus individual parts and 450 steps going into its construction. Victorinox attends to every detail, from selecting the finest materials to performing the final inspection. In addition, each individual tool has been hardened in a different way to stand up to its designated use. Such care is unmatched, and is why the Champ series is recognized by such international experts as the New York Museum of Modern Art and the State Museum of Applied Art in Munich, both of which have selected it for their "excellence in design" collections. Outfitted with a nylon handle and an aluminum housing, the Champion Plus carries a lifetime warranty.

About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.
Sports reviews of Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus Pocket KnifeCustomer Review: VictorInox-Always the Best Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought this after I snapped the tips off of all the knives included in my Explorer model swiss; I didn't want to buy the same one again, as I'm always looking for the next best upgrade. The champion plus model has everything my explorer had plus all of these odds and ends I will probably rarely ever use, but its built with the usual precision I've come to expect from Victorinox. On a side note, the Champion Plus omes with this tiny pin packaged just in front of the corkscrew that i originally thought was going to be utterly useless, however I've come to discover that it is perfect for depressing all of those pesky little reset buttons hiding behind various electronics. Also, regarding all of the negative reviews about size and weight when in your pocket, as well as the the complaints about sharpening - if you are like me and have been carrying a Swiss in your pocket for most of your life, you wont be complaining. it fits fine and my pocket and the bulk is something I'm used to. (you never saw MacGyver complain did you?) and as to the sharpening, all I can say is stop trying to use those quick sharpening tools marketed these days and grab a whet stone; nothing works better and causes the least amount of damage to your blade when done correctly. those ceramic and tungsten carbide sharpeners just change the shape or your blade, permanently damaging it, which, i suspect is where these complaints originate.
Customer Review: Do not confuse with the SwissChamp! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
There seems to be some confusion between the Champion Plus (this model) and the SwissChamp model. Hopefully this will help: the ONLY difference between the two is that the SwissChamp also has a pair of pliers. That's it. If you want some background, read on...
- The original Champion (not Plus) model was discontinued around 2001. It used to be their "top-of-the-line" model until 1985, when the SwissChamp (model 1.6795) debuted.
- The Champion Plus (model 1.6795.R) is a revival of the original Champion, debuting around 2003-2004. It includes all of the features of the SwissChamp EXCEPT for the pliers. It is still sold today, though it is not widely marketed by Victorinox (you can't find it on their web site). There has been speculation that it may be discontinued at some point. Note the "R" in the model number, which usually designates a Special Run; the base model number is identical to the SwissChamp.
A special thanks to SAKWiki for the above information.
As a side note, I have owned a SwissChamp for almost 15 years now, and it is still hands down the best quality pocket knife I've ever owned. I just recently ordered a Champion Plus to keep as a spare. I don't use the pliers all that often, so if I can save $20+ on such a high quality product, great!
Customer Review: I couldn't ask for better Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This about the largest a pocket knife can be without being uncomfortable and has all the basic tools you could imagine. It's about the size of two cigarette lighters stuck together, and fits pretty comfortably in your average jeans pocket, even if you've got a wallet and some keys.
Some of the special points about this product: the thing actually comes with a handy little pen, which has saved me a few times when I'm out somewhere and need to jot something down. It's also got a variety of sizes of screwdriver, which proved surprisingly useful--I can use this as the multitool when I'm tinkering with my computer, for instance. It offers three different serrated edges (fine, rough, and smooth). In addition, the ruler measures both metric and U.S., offering an easy conversion.
Some of the cons: the smallest screwdriver is wound into the corkscrew, so that can be a slight hassle. It takes several pulling in-and-outs of the tools to loosen them once you first get it, as most of them are quite tightly held in the case, but it's no trouble after a few days of decent use.
Overall, a great product, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get a solid multitool that isn't too big.
Customer Review: And still the champion Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I wanted another Swiss Army knife with more features and looked at the Swiss Champ plus and the Swiss champ. For what ever reason the Champ has miniplyers and the champ plus does not. (Go figure, plus means less tools) I have a great Leatherman so I chose the champ plus at the lower price. If you have a son or daughter who is in the Military or loves the outdoors grab one of these quick. When you carry your home on your back in a pack, everything is weight to usefulness ratio. This has the most useful tools you need in one package. In a camping or survival situation tools like the magnifying glass, wood saw, fish disgorger, scaler, metal file and saw will be worth the weight. Like a Leatherman it is a pocket survival multi purpose tool. I wish our U.S. military would issue this or a Leatherman to every troop in todays armed forces. I have been out for a long time so maybe they do now. When I grew up every man and boy over 12 carried a pocketknife and many would have been Swiss Army type. Its time to get back to basics and reconnect with nature. With 169 reviews and an average of 4 1/2 stars how could you not love this knife? Grab one today it's cheap insurance that might help save your butt.
Customer Review: My latest Swiss Army Knife Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Victorinox makes so many different combinations of knife functions that there is bound to be one best suited for you. I have owned many different ones throughout my life, but I think I've found the best one for me in the Champion Plus. It has everything I might need in a pinch. The only thing the variation I bought doesn't have is the pliers, which is okay, since I do have the pliers on one of my other knives and it is very light duty indeed. You needn't bother to use the pliers on anything more taxing than getting a hook out of a fish's mouth, which I can do easily with my thumb and forefinger.
These people make a high quality product for the money. They are right up there with Zippo lighters and Martin guitars. The knives you buy in the U.S. are the same as the ones sold in Switzerland. I know, because I happened to be in Geneva once, and I bought a Victorianox Swiss Army Knife there and, because I forgot to mark it, I can't tell which of my knives is the one I bought in Switzerland.
I would recommend the Champion Plus as the best knife for camping or hiking. It is probably right at the maximum size and weight I can carry in my pocket comfortably.
