Sports reviews of Valeo AW5 5-Pound Adjustable Ankle / Wrist WeightsCustomer Review: Great quality! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
These ankle weights are 2.5lbs per leg. Not 5lb per leg. I loved using these the first week. After that I got too used to them and it was like wearing nothing at all. So I started wearing the 10lb ankle weights, which is 5lb per leg.
I bought these because I wanted to add a little more into my routine, but don't really have the time to add. I can wear these all day long and I am in the hopes that it helps some. I walk alot, especially at work, so I figured these my give me a little more oomph as opposed to doing nothing extra at all. The first few days that I wore them I felt a slight soreness in the backs of my thighs.. the kind of feeling you get after working out. I thought they were supposed to work on your calves, but I didn't feel anything there. That is ok in my book though because my thighs are what needs the most work lol! They fit me comfortably. I literally wore them all day long. From the time I woke up, until I went to bed and I never had any soreness or irritation from the weights themselves. I am not sure how other people are wearing them that they are uncomfortable or cause pain. I didn't experience any of that. The velcro is strong and stay put. They don't pop open or get caught on anything either. They seem very well made. I don't expect them to fall apart or "wear out"
I have bumped up to the 5lb per leg ankle weights (made by this same brand) and they fit great/comfortably too.
Customer Review: Valeo AW5 Ankle/Wrist Weights Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I'm male, 5ft-5in (165cm), 130lbs (60kg). I use these Valeo AW5 weights as wrist weights. I also use wrist weights similarly designed, but using cast iron inserts, which are smaller for the same weight. For my wrists I have found the cast iron weights superior, as the smaller size allows them to concentrate more of the weight at the farthest possible distance, so they feel heavier than the slightly larger Valeo weights.
However, I also have the heavier (10-lb) version of these weights (Valeo AW10), which I use as ankle weights, and I feel the softer inserts are superior to the cast iron version when used as ankle weights, simply because of the painful pressure the cast iron inserts exert against the top of my foot, and against the bones of my ankle. The softer Valeo inserts are much more comfortable for use as ankle weights. (I even wear them "upside-down" so the thick bottom seam doesn't dig into my foot. Don't worry... the inserts aren't going to "slip out".)
The Valeo AW5 weights fit snugly enough, but I have them as tight as they CAN be closed, and the small diameter of my wrists is probably similar to an average-sized female, so smaller women may have trouble with these weights slipping off. (Try holding something in your hand to keep your fist clenched.)
Overall, I have been satisfied with the design and construction of these Valeo AW5 Ankle/Wrist weights.
Customer Review: Valeo AW5 weights are THE BEST! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have also purchased weights called 'The Cuff' & another brand - but they don't compare to the Valeo weights. Not only can you remove individual weight packets from each weight attachment - but the entire design is SUPERIOR: Valeo weights close with a 'D' ring plus velcro straps, so the straps don't stick out (I wore a rubber band around the other designed weights to hold the strap down, lest it catch on something &/or come loose) & the Valeo's are SECURE & SAFE! They stay exactly where I put them around my ankles when I walk through brush, etc. The Valeo's don't twist or loosen, regardless of what I'm doing. I would recommend these over all the just 'wrap around velcro straps' closures, without the 'D' ring design, to everyone considering buying any wrist or ankle weights. Don't waste money on the inferior designs (that actually cost MORE!).
Customer Review: Comfortable workout Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I recently had arthoscopic knee surgery. I only had 10 PT sessions allowed with my insurance plan. They gave me a list of workouts to continue for my knee and thigh area. I started with 1# and now I am up to 2#. These exercises are also good to continue for bone density improvement. I am planning to increase the weights as I go on. It is also economical to increase weights in a single unit than to buy a set of ankle weights with differing weights. I find these weights to be very comfortable as well as practical. I strongly recommend this product.
Customer Review: These are great. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I like these a lot, they are comfortable and they are easy to work with. My only issue with them is that I'm small and sometimes they slide around on my ankles and arms, even when I pull it as tight as I can. If you have a small frame, you might want to try them over some pants or a shirt or something wrapped around your arms so they don't move. I don't blame the product for that, though, I'm just a very small person.
