Every dedicated cyclist needs a good portable pump for his or her training rides. However, many on-the-go pumps are somewhat clunky and not all that easy to use. Enter the Topeak Road Morph G, which packs floor pump efficiency and ease of use into a compact, portable design you can bring along for the ride. The Road Morph G boasts a clever foldout footpad that stabilizes the pump against the ground rather than your hand, creating a comfortable, efficient pumping motion. Plus, the pump's flexible air hose makes it easy to work with awkward or tight valve placements while also helping prevent valve stem damage. Other features include an extra-long barrel, an inline gauge, a secure mounting bracket, a Presta/Schrader head, and a plastic thumb lock. The Road Morph G measures 2.2 by 13.8 by 1.1 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 0.49 pounds.
Sports reviews of Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump with GaugeCustomer Review: Fantastic Pump & Mounting Tip Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Wow, what an improvement over older design bike pumps going back 20 years ago. I pumped up my tires to 110 psi no problem. Flip handle and foot step are absolutely relevant and functional. If you find the gauge to be a little off as some have, just make a note as to how much when compared to your reference gauge and problem solved. It is much better to have a gauge than not.
A mounting tip for the tension straps: The last time I had bare tension straps on a Cannondale frame, my old pump would move slightly and over time it scratched and wore down the paint and logo on the top tube. This time I cut a couple inches of inner tube and positioned it right under the tension straps. Keeps the mount extremely secure of any movement whatsoever. In suggesting this to you my only concern is moisture underneath - I live in the desert and that's something I don't have to worry about too much here. But most all mounts for bike accessories, i.e. lights, computers, bells etc. have rubber shimmies for a more secure mount. A small thing, but should probably just be included by Topeak.
Customer Review: great design, easy to get to 100+ psi Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
The key feature of this pump is that the pump head is connected to the main pump by a short section of rubber tubing. This lets you put the end of the pump on the ground after locking the head onto the tube valve. Then, you can use your body weight to do the pumping as with a floor pump, which is nice if you've got skimpy arms like me and need road tire pressure (100+ psi). A short, plastic foot swings down so you can use your foot to keep the bottom end of the pump from slipping as you pump. I'm a bit worried that this foot or its hinge will break, so I try to be careful not to stress it when I'm pumping on pavement, but it's held up fine after over a dozen uses. Finally, while the gauge doesn't seem to be super precise, it's definitely good enough to be confident that you've got the right amount of pressure 'til you get home to your floor pump. As a year-round, carless commuter, I'm happy I found this reliable, well-designed pump and have recommended it enthusiastically to other cycle-commuters.
Customer Review: Best pump I've ever owned Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've owned a lot of portable bike pumps, and really, this is the one you want in an emergency. It is not the lightest one out there, or the smallest. In fact, it is a little bulky. However, when bad things happen in the field, in less than ideal conditions, you will not care about the 30 grams. You will fill up your tire to whatever pressure you like, you will not kill yourself doing so, and you will not rip the valve out of the tire (this actually happened once with another pump). The short hose lets you put the pump on the ground so you can put your back into it, and keeps sideways force off the valve. The gauge is pretty accurate, so you can get the proper pressure.
I like to carry this in my hydration pack, where it stays clean and ready for use. I wasn't too keen on the bike mounting options, anyway.
Also, I found that Topeak has top-notch customer support and they sent out a rebuild kit for a very reasonable price.
Customer Review: Excellent frame pump Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Bottom line, the Topeak Road Morph G is a fantastic little pump and well worth the full list price.
The flexible hose means you can really get a good, strong pump stroke in without worrying about shearing off your valve stem.
Its inline gauge only appears to be accurate to within ~10psi/1bar increments but that's a lot closer than you'll get without a gauge.
The swivel handle and slightly cheesy footpeg makes the work go quickly and the last few strokes to get up to 120+ PSI are easier than one would expect from such a tiny pump.
And it comes with the hardware to mount to either your water bottle braze-ons or the top tube / seat stays (or anywhere else you can imagine using the included, re-useable zip-ties).
Every time I'm riding with folks and someone asks "does anyone have a better pump?" this one gets pulled out and saves the day.
Customer Review: Finally! Got a flat, used the pump, Love it! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought the pump last year, and it has hung on my bike's frame dutifully since then. Then the first warm, beautiful spring day of this year comes along, and I get a flat! The sun is so warm, the gentle breeze so refreshing, and the topeak road morph so easy to use, I didn't mind taking a break to fix the flat. When pumping, you do work a bit. Looking at the flimsy foot rest, you just know you have to position yourself so that there is not much stress on the foot rest. Which means hunched directly over the pump. But with the flexible hose, it isn't too hard to do. And with the T-handle and some of your weight working for you, you can finish the job fairly quickly. I had the benefit of flatting out right next to a picnic bench, and the bench made a perfect rest for the pump with the wheel leaned against it. No doubt this stroke of luck contributed significantly to maintaining my Rosy outlook for the day.
