Sports reviews of Timex T5J031 Unisex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor WatchCustomer Review: Definitely Performs - No Complaints Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
After wearing the Sportline for about a month, I realized that the finger-tip method of measuring my heart rate while working out on my treadmill was not helpful. I read reviews for the chest strap HRMs and chose this one.
The data I get from this watch are similar to what I was getting from the Sportline with one big exception: calorie count. I had a feeling the calorie count on the Sportline was way too high and I believe the information I'm getting from the Timex (about 200 calories less, which seems more reasonable given the type of interval training I'm doing on my treadmill). The other thing I love is knowing my heart rate real time, not the delayed response I was getting trying to get my pulse to show using the finger-tip push button on the Sportline.
I don't use many of the features this watch offers, but I don't feel like I'm missing out. I want accurate heart rate readings; I want to know when I'm below or above my set zone (the alarm is audible even when wearing ear buds and listening to my ipod); I want to know how many calories, how long in my zone, recovery rate, and minimum/maximum heart rate readings during my workout. This watch delivers all of that and more.
Customer Review: Love at first sight. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This is my initial review and it is love at first sight. I am a male, 6 foot and about 150 lbs. Finally a HRM that is not like a Big Ben alarm clock strapped to my wrist. It is about the size of a normal size watch and seems to fit my personality and ego about as well as it fits on my wrist. If it could lay a little flatter it would be sublime but it is a good fit. The watch eas easy to set up and begin using. Nice basic function that are easy and straight forward. I loved the package as it did not require me to get out safety equipment to break into some ballistic plastic shell. I slid it out of the box, removed the plastic top and put my watch on. How refreshingly easy. I had a Sette that I thought was a bit more svelte but it melted in the sauna. Hopefully I wont forget this one off.
Now Timex. Here is personal request. If you could make a wrist HRM and blood oxygen monitor similar to this watch you would really have my heart and my blood to. It could be a simple plug in wrap around the forefinger gizmo that could be used with or without the watch. Of course something more innovative a sleek would be nice.
Customer Review: Exceeds Expectations Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I purchased this watch to replace an older Polar heart rate monitor with dead batteries in the chest strap and the monitor. The design of that product required me to send both units in for replacement by a Polar service center. The cost was nearly as much as the cost of this timex heart rate monitor.
I am so pleased with this product. The instructon manual was clearly written and easy to understand. There are just enough functions for me without loading the product up with things I will never use. That makes using it simple and I can remember how to use it without having to refresh my memory by repeatedly rereading the manual.
The monitor is an excellent watch when not using the heart rate features. Best of all I can change the batteries myself when the time comes without sending the thing off in the mail to a service center.
On top of all that the price was reasonable. This is one of those few purchases that exceeded my expectations because everything that it does, it does a little bit better than I had hoped for.
Customer Review: Great product for the price Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought this watch in June to help me with a running program that required a heart rate monitor. After reading reviews on Amazon for a number of watches, I bought this one and have been thrilled with it -- so much so that I bought one for my wife and talked my sister into buying one as well as she trains for a 10 mile race. This one does all of the basic functions that you want in a heart rate monitor -- tracking your heart rate with minimums and maximums, giving you 6 heart rate zones to choose from, warning you when you are outside of your target zone, etc. I used it within hours of unpacking the box. What it doesn't do is allow you to download your workout onto a computer after you are done, and it doesn't really have a good interval function that automatically takes you through a cycle of intervals -- you can get both of those functions on other watches, but for the price this one is does all of the basic stuff at a very good rate. I've lost 10 pounds in six weeks just using this watch, so I'd highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Great HRM watch Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought this about 6 months ago, and I love it. It works great, easy to read display with lots of display options to based on what you want to see at the time by simply clicking the Heart Monitor button.
The monitor itself is comfortable and provides easy access to change the battery, though mine is still running so I haven't had to change the battery yet.
My girlfriend has one as well and we work out together at home in close proximity and have not had any problems with crossed signals or anything like that.
The steps in entering your stats (age, weight, etc...) are simple to follow.
Bottom line is that it's got lots of features for the price. And I've been using it between 3-6 days a week for nearly 6 months with no issues, and my girlfriend has been doing the same for 3 months and no issues with hers either. There's nothing that screams "Wow!" about this watch, it just does what it's supposed to do.
I'm glad I didn't waste my money on a Polar.
