Sports reviews of Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor WatchCustomer Review: TN Sunshine Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've used a number of pulse monitors in the past, none with complete success. The results were sporatic,
unpredictable and unreliable. This one is the opposite in every way. Before I get on my treadmill, I
wet the surface of the sensor and put the belt on. I turn on the monitor - the easy push of a button on the watch which is attached to my treadmill. It reads constantly during my workout, it's as simple as that. The only negative was the inconvenience of having to put the strap on over my head. I decided to cut the elastic and attach a plastic buckle like what you would find on a backpack; it works perfectly. It's so comfortable I sometimes forget to remove it until I'm preparing for my shower. All in all, a great product, especially considering the reasonable price.
Customer Review: Losing weight from a wheelchair Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have a disability which limits my ability to walk. I went through a tramatic event two years ago and just about doubled my weight. I needed to excersize and watch my Cal's. I started the cal watching and excersize but I couldn't figure out if the things I were doing were having an impact on my ability to burn Calories. I researched everywhere for possible ways to figure this out and on one message board someone mentioned possibly getting an HRM and so far I've lost a few pounds. the kicker was when I brought it with me to Physical therapy and one of the machines were reading my heart rate LOL. No one knew the machine could do that. So now when i'm on it I know how far I've pushed myself and to not go overboard or under. So far I LOVE IT! I even use it to walk the Dog LOL.
Customer Review: great value Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This beauty does the job without a lot of useless and overpriced features. Synchs with gym equipment, which is not really a plus for me, but the entire unit costs less than a replacement transmitter belt for my old unit. I bought this based on the highest recommended value rating from consumer reports and was not disappointed.
It appears to calculate the heartrate over shorter time intervals than other units and gym equipment. This gives more accurate instant readings, but could be misleading if you wear the watch rather than strapping it to the equipment. If you only use it for ellipticals and treadmills which synch, you could probably do without the watch and just get the replacement belt. If you are a serious exerciser or biker get extra straps to alternate.
Customer Review: It works great! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I purchased this heart rate monitor two months ago. I did some research on them and found what I was looking in the Timex T5G971. The price was very reasonable. In the beginning I was a little frustrated with trying to get it to work until I read the directions a few times. Now I use it everytime I run or do other types of cardio exercise. It tells me the length of my workout, where my heart rate is at all times and how many calories I burned. I use it in conjunction with the Karvonen Formula for my Training Heart Rate Range (THRR)to figure out what percentage I'm exercising at. I was concerned the watch would be too big being a female with a small wrist but its not. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but if you're looking for a basic one, it works great!
Customer Review: Really love it Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
It's really rare for me to write a review, but I feel I need to in the case of this watch. It's awesome! Admittedly, it is my first heart rate monitor watch, but it really does what it's supposed to do. I've had it for about a month now and haven't encountered any real problems.
Pros: Easy to use
Easy to read
Constant heart rate updating
Not too bulky
Chest strap is comfortable
Tracks tons of useful information (calories burned, time in specific zones, max heart rate, etc)
Cons: Sometimes the heart rate monitor turns off if the strap isn't wet enough
I paid about $5 more a month ago than it is currently priced (no one's fault, though)
I love this watch and would highly recommend it to anyone!
