Description of Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor Watch

Combining stylish looks with heart rate monitoring features, this larger Timex Personal Heart Rate Monitor watch (model T5G971) can be worn by both men and women. It features a chest strap heart rate monitor, easily accessible function buttons, durable resin case, and comfortable resin strap with a stylish tapered profile. For integrating heart rate monitoring into your training, this watch enables you to continuously track your heart rate during exercise as well as pre-set target heart rate zones with alarms that notify you when you are out of the zone. It also offers an automatic activity timer and a workout review that recalls activity time and average/peak heart rates. This streamlined watch also has a month/day/date display with 12/24-hour time.

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet), which protects it from rain and water splashes. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

Customer Review: Monitor shows skipped, extra heart beats
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I called around to some of the vendors and manufacturers asking them if the little flashing heart actually flashed with the heart rate beat or was simply an indicator the monitor was working. In all cases I was told the little flashing heart was simply to indicate the function was operating and did not really reflect the actual heart rate. The displayed numbers showed the actual rate. I had put off buying another monitor (I had already gone through two others) until this Timex model was offered at a discount. Regardless of what the little flashing heart meant, I needed a new monitor. Anyway, to the point, the little flashing heart on this Timex model DOES indicate the actual heart beat. It will actually flash to show extra beats or missed beats. I've been having some problems with arrithmea (sp) so this information is important to me. All else, fit, finish, operability, reliability is first class also. The recumbent bike I use even picks up the signal from the chest band without needing to hang onto the machine. I'm pleased with this monitor.

Customer Review: Just what I needed !!!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Timex T5G971 Unisex Sports Personal Heart Rate Monitor Watch Had it about 3 weeks now and wouldn't give it up. Has all essentials I need for my needs. Bought
2 of them. One worked perfect, the other wouldn't pick up pulse further than 6" from sending unit. Called seller, they said to call Timex Co. Timex had one sent out the next day with a prepaid return box for the old one. Both are working fine and they don't crosstalk with each other and most exercise equip. will pick it up on their receiver, but
I haven't had any problem bleeding over to other people's machines. Had a Sportline HRM
before w/o belt and very time you sweat it would get wet and not pickup signal. Plus you had to use one to reach over and hold the button for a reading ( a real pain). I have
always relied on these reviews before buying, but please read all the reviews Pro & Con
carefully because every one has a different opinion !!! Thanks Les

Customer Review: Good Features at a Good Price
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I was looking for a heartrate monitor to track not only my aerobics workouts but also my weight training workouts. I wanted a wireless monitor with a large enough display so it was easy to read (yes, I've joined the reading glasses population). I needed to be able to replace the batteries myself, and it would be nice if it could tell time in case I wanted to use it as a watch.

The Timex met all my needs and at a very good price. I was a bit concerned because I have a 54" chest and a fairly large wrist. I was also concerned because the packaging is not specific about whether it has a coded signal so that it does not pick up other heartrate monitor signals. The chest strap fits me well but if my chest gets too much larger, it's going to be a bit snug. The wrist band also fits but it's in the last hole, and so far, I haven't picked up anyone else's monitor or bled over onto anyone else's cardio machines.

I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

Customer Review: Best Display and Very Repsonsive
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This is my fourth HRM and by far the best. The display is big and very readable even in dim light without using the indiglo. My last two HRMs were the older model Timex Ironman 100 lappers. They became very unreliable even with new batteries. I used to have to use electrode gel just to get them to work at all. This HRM gives me an accurate reading immediately and continues to do so as my heart rate changes during my workout. It works great even without electrode gel. It doesn't have any fancy features but I don't need them. It does record your time in the zone that you can set and you average and peak heart rates. It also has a recovery time feature that measures how many BPM your HR drops in one minute. The sensor belt will also work with the HR display most treadmills and other indoor machines. This HRM has already improved my training significantly because it is so accurate and responsive. I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: This is my second heart rate monitor.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

My first monitor was a BoFlex. It lasted about a month and quit working. They replaced it under warranty, and that one worked for a couple months until it started giving me erratic readings, which is something you don't want in a heart monitor. After an online search, I settled on this Timex due to it's cost, reputation, and serviceability (some brands have to be returned to to the manufacturer to have the battery replaced). So far I am impressed. The users manual could be a bit better, but it's not that difficult to figure out. Readings are quick and accurate. The only nit I have to pick with about it is the chest band isn't designed for large guys. I have a large chest (think of a barrel), and although the band is adjusted as long as it can go, it still has to be stretched to fit, and after a while becomes uncomfortable. It would be terrific if they made an extension for it!
