Have previously owned Polar watches, 3 to be exact. Wanted to try the Timex to avoid the inconvenience of having to send the watch to Polar for battery replacement. There was NEVER an issue of the Polar watch not receiving a signal from the chest strap. Most times I did not even bother to moisten the strap. OK enough about Polar. Had two of this Timex watch. I tried everything short of dipping the chest straps into the ocean to moisten them. Also tried using saliva because someone commented that it had superior electrolyte characteristics. I also replaced the battery in the straps because Timex "tech support" stated that it might have been on the shelf for a while. Explored a couple of web sites that reviewed Timex heart rate monitors and a significant number of people commented on the watch's problem of not receiving / intermittently receiving a signal. By the way the reason for owning 3 Polar watches is that I am too lazy and impatient to send them in to Polar for battery replacement.
