Recall average, peak and minimum heart rates. Indigo night-light.The affordable, entry-level Timex T5G941 is great for those just starting out with heart rate monitoring. This digital wristwatch-style monitor continuously tracks your heart rate via a comfortable, elastic chest strap (which fists chest sizes from 25 to 53 inches). The large, easy-to-read display recalls your activity time and average, peak, and minimum heart rate, and it includes 12/24 hour time and month/date display. It also features INDIGLO night light backlighting, up to 2 years of battery life, and is water resistant to 30 meters (100 feet)--enabling it to withstand splashes and accidental dunks into the water, but not suitable for swimming.

I have had this monitor for eight months already and it works just fine. I use it during different kinds of exercise: walking, bicycling, running, stationary bicycling, hiking, etc. It is not full of features, but it has always worked perfectly in timing my workouts and giving me the average and maximum heart rate during each workout, as well as the "at the moment" heart rate and elapsed time during the workout. The Indiglo light works nicely, and having a button to see the time-of-day during the workout is also a nice feature. The chest strap is not uncomfortable. Yes, at times I wish I could capture separate data for each segment of a workout, and maybe even know how much time I spend in each heart-rate zone, so eventually I may get a fancier model. Excellent item and very reasonably priced! This is my second purchase of this model HRM. I originally bought my first one after shopping around on the internet and comparing features and prices. This monitor is an excellent value choice and works great. I use mine for my daily works to help pace myself so as to not over or under do it while walking,(I am 66). I immediately saw how important it was to know your heart rate while exercising. I liked mine so well that I bought another one for my Dad,(he just turned 87) to wear when he rides his exercise bike every morning. I now have the peace of mind that Dad is not going to over do it on his bike. He is stubbornly resisting the aging process and so far is winning!

The heart-rate monitor is fairly easy to use once one has taken the trouble to read the instructions. The previous heart monitor that I used was part of my treadmill package. It constantly missed the signal and was more a source of frustration than of help. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Timex interacts perfectly with the treadmill so that I now enjoy full functionality of the latter. If you have ever experienced the trials of trying to obtain a battery replacement for one of these items, you will be pleased to find that a replacement battery is user installable. Completely satisfied with this device after one month of 3/wk use. If you have the proper equipment and are comfortable working with microelectronics, you can replace the CRxxxx cells in both the wrist and chest units in a few minutes yourself, and avoid the cost of having some expert do it for you. This is far superior to another manufacturer's HRM I used previously who required that I ship them off to a repair center - incurring greater costs and a delay.
So far it has been completely reliable. I also note that the Timex chest unit seems to "lose contact" (my assumption) under certain exercise motions less frequently than the previous HRM did.

I purchased this heart monitor well over a month ago and have used it every other day for 60 minute exercise sessions (walking and running.) I have not had one problem with the unit. I'm very impressed for the money I spent. At this point, I highly recommend the item. I haven't needed to wet the unit that straps to your check and I haven't experienced any of the problems other have posted about. To date, it has provided nothing but consistent accurate results. Sometime, the strap around your chest can irritate your skin, but that will happen with any of the monitors that have fabric in contact with your skin during long exercise sessions.
