Sports reviews of Timex T5G941 Heart Rate Monitor WatchCustomer Review: Simple and effective Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought this HRM watch after reviewing the specs carefully and i am pretty happy with its performance. It does what it claims it would do. I have had no problems what so ever in the 1 month when i have been using this. The best thing about this product in my opinion are
1) It is easy to change batteries by the user
2) consistent hr readings
3) no need to wet the chest strap flaps. As i have been able to get this to work without wetting it.
4) the chest strap fits very snugly. So i don't feel it awkward during my workouts
Minus Points
1) The hr watch is designed in such a way that the strap cannot be changed. If the strap is damaged you cannot fix this easily
2) You can store only the last workout information. that too only the following 3 readings are stored for you
- Workout duration
- Avg Heart Rate
- Peak Heart Rate
But this is anyway mentioned in the specs. So you should be fine with this little information if you are going to use this device only to make sure that you are working out in your zone. And that you have no intention of reviewing and reconstructing your HR readings second by second post workout. If so then then this would be ideal.
Customer Review: Worth Much MoreThan I Paid Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My Timex Heart Monitor arrived today and, after a quick read of the enclosed instructions, I strapped on the watch and the sensor unit and headed for the Oz fitness center.
The Timex seemed to work perfectly. It was consistent first with my resting pulse rate. And at the gym the Star Trec Treadmill picked up the signal and registered the same as it did yesterday when I didn't have the Timex unit.
I'm 70 years old. It was really great to NOT have to grab the treadmill sensors with both hands to check my pulse while jogging 6+MPH. The new Star Trec treadmill picked up the Timex signal and displayed my heart rate so I didn't even have to look at the watch. Of course it comes in handy on the rowing machine and the torso machine, acting as an incentive to push to my maximum heart rate.
It may be that the watch battery (or more likely the sensor battery) will run down after a couple of months of daily use. I don't actually know how long the batteries will last or how resilient the unit is to abuse.
I hope it will outlast the cheap but comfortable plastic watch band. Now that I have used it once I don't want to jog, bicycle, or go the gym without it.
Customer Review: Great Bang for the Buck! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I was getting tired of replacing the chest transmitter for my Polar all the time, so I got the Timex T5G941 mainly because it has user replaceable batteries. I haven't had it long enough to know how long the batteries last, but even if I replaced them every other month, it would still cost less than a new Polar transmitter every 8-10 months.
Pros: Transmitter picks up my heart easily and has yet to lose the signal despite my hairy chest! Numbers are large and easy to read. The features and modes are very user friendly and easy to use. User replaceable CR2032 batteries in both the watch and the transmitter. Recalls basic but useful workout information. Costs half as much as Polar models with similar features.
Cons: Thin transmitter strap digs in just a little. Can't see heart rate and time of day at the same time (trade off for the large numbers). Target zone alarm would be nice. No bike mount included, although an exacto blade made the foam in the package into one easily.
Customer Review: Performs exactly as advertised. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I was in the market for a heart rate monitor with chest strap that simply provided heart rate. I didn't need any other function than that. After searching local stores (big name and small) all I could find were wrist monitors (no chest straps) and all had far more functionality than what I needed, for more money than what I wanted to spend.
I researched these and the Timex was highly rated as just a simple heart rate monitor.
I have had the item for over a month now and it performs exactly as advertised and does everything I need it to do. Bonus for me is that the monitor's readings are picked up by the treadmills I run on so I don't always have to glance at the watch to see my heart rate.
For the money, if you are simply looking for a reliable heart rate monitor without all the gizmos, this one is for you.
Customer Review: Good basic heart rate monitor. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This is a good basic heart rate monitor. The numbers are big and easy to see on the watch. Some people complain that the heart rate is wildly off, but that can happen with any chest strap monitor. If it is too loose or too low it might bounce as you run and that adds to the pulse it picks up, or sometimes it doesn't get a good reading and is much too slow. You just need to readjust the strap, usually just lift it up in back. This watch doesn't have a stop watch mode, but it will keep a record of the time you turn on the monitor mode on the watch. This chest strap is read by all of the machines at our sports center, treadmills, spin bikes, elliptical trainer, etc.. I can use this chest strap with my old watch from a different company, so I use it for runs because I can use the stop watch.
