For integrating heart rate monitoring into your training, this watch enables you to track your avareage heart rate and pre-set target heart rate zones with data for time spent within that zone and alarms. It can also display data for calories burned and offers a recovery timer that measures your heart rate after a timed recovery during or after your workout. Sport timing features include:

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

Sports reviews of Timex Ironman T5C411 Unisex 30-Lap Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Watch

Customer Review: Great training aid
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Bought this to replace my old Ironman 30-lap (no HR) in preparation for my first marathon. I had read a number of reviews and decided that despite the few detractors it would probably work well for me and so far I have no complaints.

Overall the construction is solid and looks like it can take a beating. The strap is different than the older models (not sure if it's replaceable) but it appears to be very good quality and has lots of notches to ensure a good fit.

I was not able to do the HR set up on my own but a quick read of the manual explained everything very clearly. It picked up my heart rate right away and is very accurate. When I'm using it in the gym I compare it to what the cardio machines indicate and it's right on.

The chest strap stays in place (did not budge during a 3-hour run) and does not pinch or irritate the skin. You can change the battery yourself which is a plus.

This is an excellent watch and the Amazon.com price is hard to beat.

Customer Review: very pleased w/ watch and chest strap
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

the ironman heartrate monitor watch is awesome!
i was a little concerned at first wearing a chest strap and if i would feel unconfortable or unable to move the way i wanted, but you barely know its there.
i am 5'11 and like larger faced watches. i tried on the midsize 1st and it was still a bit to small for what i was used to and then ordered this one. love it.
i was using the MIO heartrate monitor watch (that is one of the only watches you do not have to wear a cheststrap w/ and it sucked at telling your heartrate) being pregnant i really wanted something reliable and fast so when i take my spinning classes i know instantly what my heartrate is doing. this watch does all that and more. always loved ironman and this is why. never stray or else you will pay.

Customer Review: Great watch for someone who likes to keep track of their workouts too!!!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This watch is perfect! I use every one of the functions through out the day, and use the fitness features while working out. From keeping track of time in two time zones to timing between sets and monitoring my heart rate I use it all!!! This is the simplest watch to use with all of these functions, and the display is layed out practically and you can modify it to your tastes. All in all, the best watch I've had in years. Oh, it doesn't look to bad either; although it wouldn't be too appropriate for a night on the town it still looks good. It was surprisingly small for all the functions it carries. If this thing ever breaks, I'll buy another one right away!

Customer Review: Exceptional Quality
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I'm a new user of this type of heart rate monitoring equipment. Being in the Air Force, we've used these belt type monitors during physical testing. I use mine for treadmill workouts and to ensure my heart rate is elevated during weight training afterwards. I'm completely happy with the ease of use and durablility. There are other more expense options available on the market but this one does everything you would need or expect and then some. Unless you're a world class athlete you cannot go wrong with the features and quality this fine piece of equipment provides.

Customer Review: Excellent Value
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I often use Consumer Reports when buying products, but the last review of heart rate monitors (HRM) was a couple of years ago and many tested models were discontinued, and the existing models were unattractive, so I had to choose one on my own. So far, this watch and HRM have worked without issue.

Pros:

- Looks great
- Inexpensive
- Accurate (via my own informal tests)
- Comfortable

Con:

- Need to dampen heart rate monitor contacts before using (very minor)
