The Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus is a lightweight, compact, comfortable and highly effective mattress to insulate you from the ground especially in cold weather. If you have been backpacking and hit the trail for a long hike your body will appreciate a comfortable nights rest on this mattress. The importance of a good nights sleep cannot be underestimated and this mattress will make that possible.

On the flip side the mattress does not come with a stuff sack and can be difficult to fold compact enough to fit into the Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus Stuff Sack. This is especially true if your hands are cold or injured. Of course any air mattress has the potential to get a hole and leak air so it would be wise to have a patch kit for such a situation. Despite all this the Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus is a 5 star mattress that I would not be without on any of my trips.

I like to use two pads by using a Thermarest Ridge Rest Solar Sleeping Pad in conjunction with a Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus Mattress for a double layer of warmth and comfort especially when doing cold weather camping. While the air mattress can get a hole and deflate the Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Solar Sleeping Pad will not have such issues and is a dependable pad if something should happen to the air mattress.

I recommend the Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus Mattress as it is very comfortable and packs very small. After a hard day on the trail your body will thank you for a great nights rest.

About Therm-a-Rest
In 1971, Seattle aerospace giant Boeing announced the largest layoff in company history, resulting in 50,000 people losing their jobs. Among the jobless were Jim Lea and Neil Anderson, both engineers who were eager to get back to work. Turning to friend John Burroughs--an avid mountain climber--for ideas, Burroughs suggested a better sleeping mattress, specifically one that was lightweight, warm, and comfortable.

Taking their inspiration from gardening cushions that expelled air as the gardener shifted his or her weight, the duo took a piece of open-cell foam and sandwiched it between two pieces of airtight fabric. Using an old sandwich maker, they melted the fabric onto the foam, creating a bond that was perfectly airtight. After adding a valve, their prototype was ready to test. Within two years, Lea and Anderson had partnered with Burroughs to begin production of Therm-a-Rest pads, the world's first self-inflating mattress. Under the name Cascade Designs, the private, family-owned company has grown into one of the most respected outdoor manufacturers in the world.
