We already own one that we bought at a chiropractor's office for $10 more than what it is here on Amazon. A running friend was always borrowing it as soon as he came home from running and it was a great birthday present. Every one on the high school team now wants one.
The information about the stick says that it increases speed--all I know is that it's great for sore muscles and it's very easy to use.

My PT recommended the stick for my IT band pain and other trigger points. But i was finally sold by reading the Amazon review from the woman with compartment syndrome, which I also have in my lower legs. I use the Stick before and after exercise, and I can run again without compartment pain. It is the best self-help tool I could imagine, and I want to give Sticks to all my relatives as Christmas gifts.Customer Review: Great for everyone

I love the stick. I use it whenever I get a chance. It helps warm up and ease my muscles. I also use a black foam roller (the firmest kind) but the stick definitely helps me get an even deeper, more concentrated massage that really helps dissipate any knots. And if you can a friend to help you, having the stick massage your back muscles (not the spine) is just an amazing feeling. This is a must buy.Customer Review: The Stick is Awesome!

The Stick is a life saver. I've tried everything: creams, heat, ice -- nothing comes close to the Stick. I like to rock climb hard and I was always ending up with knots in my fore-arms that I just couldn't work out. With the Stick I'm able to break up the knots. If you're like me and your muscles tend to get tighter not bigger (which leads to knots) then the Stick is the right tool for you.Customer Review: amazing product!

I purchased this product while training for my first marathon, and after every long run I would use this and it seriously worked wonders on my sore legs! Works almost like a deep tissue massage, except you can control the amount of pressure being used. Bought this for my mom who has back problems, and she loves it too! Highly recommend this for everyone, athletes and non-athletes.
