Last year I started training for my first half-marathon. Though I'd been running the past 8 years (a few times a week, about 30 minutes per run), I definitely felt a lot of leg soreness when I started upping my km/mileage for the 1/2 training. I really couldn't afford weekly massages, and even yoga or deep stretching after a run was not helping my muscles recooperate fast enough between runs.
I first saw the body stick being sold at one of the 10K training races I ran last year. It looked interesting, but honestly, it looked like something I could make myself (not that I actually could, but it looked like a child's toy - the kind in the doctor's offices were your push the large colorful beads around wire loop-de-loops). It wasn't until I got really tired of massaging my own calves and hamstrings every night that I decided to look for it on amazon.
I'm really glad I did! Even though it seemed like a pricey purchase at first, the relief from my leg soreness really changed my mind. It's now become a part of my nightly ritual where I roll away on my legs while I'm watching primetime TV. I've stopped running for the meantime because I've become addicted to Beach Body's Insanity workout series, but I still use the stick every night on my calves (as there are no calf stretches embedded in that workout... but that is a whole other review).
I definitely recommend this! It will save you a lot of time and money spent on professional massages (although those are always a nice once in a while treat, too).
