I have been doing pilates for several years, and I bought this video to get in some different moves from the other ones that I have. I really like using the included resistance band. It heightens the workout and makes your muscles work much harder. Unlike some other pilates workouts I've done, the Firm video focuses a lot on the arms, butt, and thighs, but not as heavily on the core/abs. This is a positive for me, but may not be for others. Overall, I think it is a good workout that gives you good tone.
Description of The Firm Pilates Heavy Resistance Band
Fast-moving, with no wasted time, it's a huge variety of Pilates-style moves in just 30 minutes. They all use the Firm Pilates band that's included with the DVD (a long, flat latex sheet, similar to a Dyna-band or Leslie Sansone Stretchie). The band serves two purposes - it increases the intensity of some moves and it helps maintain the correct body position in others. All the Pilates classics are here, from leg circles and the hundred to double leg stretches and planks. In addition, you get Pilates-band variations of traditional toning moves like pushups and bicep curls. Alison Davis' cuing is encouraging and supportive ("nice big circles if you can, if not then just keep them small"). DVD not available without the band. Running time is 32 minutes.Designed to add resistance to your Pilates or other workout routines, this simple but versatile exercise tool can be used for stretching, toning and strengthening your abs, arms, legs, buttocks, and hips. Made of durable, easy-to grip latex rubber, the band is a safe alternative to exercises using weights as it minimizes pressure on the joints and decreases the possibility of incurring injuries. Included with the band is a 30-minute Pilates instructional video that leads you through some easy-to-follow resistance workouts. Perfect for traveling, home or even in the office, the band is also available in light and medium resistance to accommodate individual fitness levels.
