Sports reviews of Teeter Hang Ups Gravity BootsCustomer Review: These things work! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought these about a year ago when I threw my back and was in bed for almost a week.
I found information about Vax-D Therapy where they put you on a modern day rack system to stretch your back. I was getting ready to schedule an appointment when I found other people saying to save your money and buy an inversion table.
The Vax-D was prohibitively expensive so I started looking into Inversion Tables. I was trying to figure out where to put an inversion table when I remembered the old "Gravity Boots" from the 1980's.
Space was an issue so I decided to try these boots instead of the table.
I ordered them shipped Next-Day because I was desperate.
I used them 3 times a day and the next day I already felt better. I felt so much better that I thought the boss would think that I made up the bad back story to miss some days at work.
In about 3 days I was almost back to normal.
Working a desk job, I really should use them every day and I only remember to use them when my back starts hurting again.
I don't use the "Removable calf loops" anymore, but they were great when my back was out, since I actually held on to them to pull myself back up.
This is not for the Faint-Hearted so people who whine about them not being safe should just buy an inversion bed. This would be much gentler for them and much easier to use too.
Don't let the plastic construction fool you. These things are very sturdy, very comfortable and very safe. -- I've never felt that they would give out, break or come loose on me.
I highly recommend buying the Inversion Rack -> Teeter Hang Ups EZ Up Inversion Rack
I kicked myself for getting it -- You don't want to go through the trouble of finding an alternative way to hang from when this you could've bought that rack in the first place.
I took the time to write this review because I'd like other back pain sufferers to know about this option that they can do at home at their own time.
Again, if you're not scared and you still have the stamina to pull yourself back up when you're done, these are Highly Recommended.
If you're scared, get an inversion table and save yourself the doctor or chiropractor bills.
Customer Review: work great, but consider your ability and needs Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
These boots work well, and they are also well built. Very much worth the investment. I bought them out of a suspicion that they would ameliorate painless but significant scoliosis. After two months, my back feels more open, flexible, and straighter. No quantitative progress to share, but when it comes to your back, feelings matter. ;)
Don't underestimate the challenge of getting your feet up to the bar. I've done lots of reps of knees-to-elbows and toes-to-bar in the past; the precision needed to get the hooks on the bar makes getting hooked in harder than a couple reps of either of those exercises. That said, it should be within reach of motivated individuals, and if you already have a pull-up bar the boots take up a lot less space than an inversion table.
Some folks don't respond well to inversion. I've done other forms of it for years and have had no problems. Some friends who've tried the boots got nauseous, though. Best to find out where you fall within that spectrum before purchase, perhaps through handstands against a wall.
I'm unconvinced that the various suggested exercises (situps, squats) are more useful when done inverted, just a different and more challenging stimulus. I do some rotations, and occasionally rack out a little more by holding onto a 45-lb plate. If you're hanging within a squat rack, you can grab the uprights to increase the rotation.
Once you get the hang of getting your hands back to the bar, the optional calf loops are unnecessary and just slow down the process of donning/doffing the boots.
Customer Review: Better than the other brands. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
These are by far, the best boots out there. Way better than the steel or aluminum types. They fit the exact size and taper of your ankle.. something that the other boots cannot do. They are not easy to put on but when something fits tight, it does take longer to put on or to take it off.
These are the latest generation of boots, not the same old
design from the 1980s but they can be a bit uncomfortable.
You just have to get used to them. I could only use this boots
for 2 mins at a time and now (3 weeks later) I can hang for
5 mins. As time passes on, maybe I'll be able to use them for
longer periods of time.
Also, this boots will eliminate your lower back pain but
not sure how effective it is for neck pain. I feel that I need stronger traction in that area and inversion alone is not enough. Only time can tell.
One final thought: Doing sit ups while hanging down is not necesarily better than doing sit ups on the floor ... it's dificult to exercise for long periods of time on gravity boots (maybe 5 mins) ... your ankles will hurt.
When I do sit ups on the floor, I can exercise for as long
as I want and I can do far more sit ups. Also, I use ankle weights :-) and move my legs while doing the sit ups.
Customer Review: Perfect inversion boots Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I completely love these boots. I purchased these after I returned the Body Solid GIB2 boots which I found to be extremely uncomfortable after about a min of hanging. I didn't get these in the first place because they were a bit more expensive, and the fact that they were plastic. To the contrary I found that the plastic construction feels just as secure as the metal Body Solid boots did, and much more lightweight. The tightness adjustment is a must for this situation, since with the Body Solid boots I would always feel as if I were going to fall out if I didn't rigidly keep my toes pointed perpendicular to my legs. The padding in these boots covers all the right areas, and has a favorable texture for the small amount of slipping that occurs when you invert. I can stay upside-down for pretty much as long as I want with these boots (10 min generally) and the only side effect is mild pins and needles, no pain at all. I also really love the whole concept of being inverted and how it gives my lower back a deep stretch. It is also the best way to work your abs hands down since your abs are being stretched as you exert them putting a high tensile stress on your muscles. Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Hang Me UP Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Being a bodybuilder, I hoist heavy weights all the time; a major stress especially when it comes to squats. I ordered the boots when I realized I had shrunk to 5'10.5" from being 6'0.5". I was thusly very happy when after approximately 5 weeks of hanging (5 times a week, 10-15 min intervals) that I am nearly back to my original height (6' 0.25"). I highly suggest this product as a supplement to good [emphasis on good] chiropractic care.
To those who have/will order this product, don't be discouraged if it seems to hurt your back at first; that's totally normal because your back is trying to readjust while the discs [which cushion the vertebrate] start rehydrating. Also, it will take some time to find the strap tightness that's right for your legs. Generally, tighter on the top strap and looser on the bottom is a good combination.
p.s. Hang from a real pull-up bar and make sure you have someone to spot you if you are not strong enough to pull yourself back up the bar to unlatch yourself.
