Sports reviews of Tech4O Traileader 2 WatchCustomer Review: great display and base functionality Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
I must disclose I have not gotten around to testing the pedometer (accelerometer) functionality of this watch.
The display is awesome... No other watch on the market that I know of has a full-faced dot matrix display (except for some cheesy multimedia watches and GPS watches). This is the main reason why I like this watch, as opposed to other watches with similar functionalities (*cough* Timex WS4). Suunto Core almost gets it right, but still has segmented elements in the middle of its screen. Segmented LCD displays are sooo 1980s.
The functionality of the watch is somewhat impressive, given the lightweight design. Other watches with barometer/compass/thermometers will not have an accelerometer (or some other sensor for measuring on-foot distance traveled). However, coming from using the Timex DataLink USB for years, the normal time functionality is somewhat cumbersome to use (the DataLink has a scroll-wheel for quickly navigating menus/changing values). There are only two alarms and the count-down timers are not customizable.
The form factor of the watch is somewhat on the large side, but weights very little. Even on my skinny wrist, it looks acceptable and feels comfortable.
The strap on this version is somewhat flimsy, as the end of the strap is already fraying (I only had it for a couple months but do take it on/off everyday). However the material is light weight and breathable. Taking a lighter to the end of the strap might help stop the fraying.
Description of Tech4O Traileader 2 WatchLooks like a watch, works like the ultimate survival tool. The new TraiLeader packs everything you need to navigate the wildest of wild places into a compact, rugged stainless steel case. Equipped with rugged ventilated polymer band.Features: - Precision altimeter and digital compass for wayfinding - Barometer and thermometer monitor weather conditions - Onboard accelerometer measures speed and distance - Stainless steel construction and recessed lens are designed for the long haul . The Tech4O Traileader 2 may look like a watch, but it works like the ultimate survival tool, packing everything you need to navigate the wildest of wild places within a compact, rugged stainless-steel case. The accuracy of the Traileader 2 stems from its accelerometer sensor, which detects changes in the user's movement (acceleration) and then translates them into varying degrees of electric current within the sensor. Next, the watch decodes these electrical currents into highly accurate measurements of speed and distance and displays them on the watch face. Accelerometer sensors are commonly found within a diverse range of industrial products in which accuracy is critical to performance, including airbags and tilt meters. The Traileader 2 does more than just track speed and distance, however, with sophisticated instruments that determine your pace, calories burned, steps, and total time. Plus, the watch records a fully adjustable personal profile--helping you develop custom training routines--and offers an ultra-reliable 10-day memory function that tracks your progress in the short term. The Traileader 2 is also equipped with a number of instruments for hiking and climbing, including an altimeter, barometer, and digital compass. The altimeter measures your current altitude, reference altitude, and ascent/descent rates, while offering such features as a 48-hour altitude graph, a 24-hour maximum and minimum altitude indicator, and altitude alarms. The barometer, meanwhile, gauges the current pressure and temperature, with a weather forecaster and 48-hour pressure graph thrown in for good measure. And the digital compass is a must for back-country trips, with such features as a 1-degree increment resolution, an adjustable declination, a bearing lock, and a distortion warning. Other details include a recessed lens designed for the long haul, a 50-lap chronograph, six timers, and dual time zones. Equipped with a ventilated polymer band, the Traileader 2 carries a one-year warranty.
