The table-mate ii rocks! Period. I have had a lot of people look at the table mate and call it ugly but when they see how it useful it is, it becomes a buy. I have had at least 10 people buy the table-mate after looking at how useful the damn thing is.
Real Incident - One interesting thing, one day a guy rang my doorbell and introduced himself as someone who lived close by. He then proceeded to tell me that he goes for walks everyday and when he looked through our window he could see us using the table-mate for various different things. Since he tried and was not able to find a comparable product and was not able to identify the table-mate he decided to ring our bell and ask. That is the power of the table-mate.
My wife says table-mate should pay me something, because I am an un-official table-mate salesman.

I am the kind of person that makes fun of all the infomercial products, but reading these reviews convinced me that this product was worth it. I have been using this stand for about 2 weeks as both a laptop stand and meal tray and I can definitely say that it is well worth the price. The fact that the base can slide under what you are sitting on is DEFINITELY the best design feature of this product. Couple this stand w/ an ottoman or foot stool and it makes a PERFECT work station.
If I had to list any negative, it would be that it really doesn't store THAT easily compared to other tv stands that fold up. Yes, you can dismantle it and store, but it's not a one hand operation like other similar products. Honestly though, this is a small price to pay for the GREAT functionality.

I purchased this table for someone who needed help after surgery and was not mobile. The price was remarkable
compared to a regular hospital table that could swing over for food or a remote etc. Not only could they use
it as a bedtable but it also worked great for a chair. It was nice it was light weight enough for them to remove
at will with only arm strength but also strong enough to put items on without fear of them falling on their lap.
What was amazing because i was not there at delivery my Mother put this table together by herself and to my knowledge
had never assembled anything in her life. It was delivered promptly and has really been appreciated and made life
easier for both of them. Easy 5 star item and if you want what you see in the photograph you will not be disapointed.

I've owned my Table Mate II for just over 10 years. It's value shines when a family member is ill and can't eat at the dining/kitchen table but is confined to a chair or the sofa. Big enough to eat a civilized meal off of with room for placemat, plate, drink, utensils, etc.... Slides under chair leaving the Table Mate table top over the user's lap for a natural eating position. Not sure about the 50 lb rating but is durable enough for most uses. After 10 years, product is still as good as new.
Update, 2/21/09 - I just purchased two more Table Mates. They are not as well built as my 10 yr old version. The metal is thinner and, as a result, the table is more 'wobbly'. In addition, the table top is 1/2 inch shorter. It is still good enough to use but definitely not the phenomenal product it used to be.

I bought my table mate II for a birthday present Jan 26th. My Mother had bought one for my sister so she could do her beading. She makes jewelry as do I. So I kept saying I was going to get one after seeing all the different angles this little table could adjust to and because I had recently had major surgery an couldn't get out of bed very much. I ended up buying two so that I could have one in my livingroom and one in my bedroom. This table adjusts to both my king size bed and my rocker recliner chair with no problem and it slides right up to you so you are not leaning over and ending up with a backache or neck pain. It is well worth the money spent. The clincher is you can leave it up or fold it down and put it away with very little effort. I choose to leave mine up since I use it so much.
