Sports reviews of Steiner 7x50 Commander V w/ Compass Binocular

Customer Review: German-quality binocolars!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Reasonably light-weight, very clear glass, German quality. Range-finding reticle, accurate compass.

My only gripe - the reticle mast moves when you adjust the inter-pupilar distance, and in my case becomes "bent" after adjustment. I guess it's inevitable with this design (which is very common).

Overall - great bino. I love it!

Description of Steiner 7x50 Commander V w/ Compass Binocular

Steiner Commander V 7 x 50 mm Binoculars... world-class professional ocean yacht racers agree they're the best! Take it from legenday skipper Dennis Conner: "We've used a lot of binoculars over the years, but when we outfit a boat for the America's Cup or the V.O.R. Round-the-World race, we choose Steiner for reliability, brightness, and their exceptionally stable and accurate compass." Talk about high praise from an informed source! If you're after the brightest optics for unparalleled performance at night or in low light conditions, here are the brightest Binoculars made: the Steiner Commander V. With "HD" High-Definition Nighthunter technology that delivers 96% peak light transmission, the highest ever recorded. You choose a standard model, or one with integrated high-performance illuminated compass. The analog compass and ranging reticle are reliably precise and don't impede your view. Compass-illumination button is easy to operate even with gloves on (uses 2 watch-type alkaline batteries for the illuminator). Each Commander V is hand-built to be mil. spec. waterproof and shock resistant, with a Steiner 30-year limited warranty; Special BaK-4 prisms and unique coatings ensure unsurpassed light transmission for sensationally clear, high-contrast three-dimensional vision. Internal stray-light-prevention system (a series of baffles) helps create the 96%-plus peak brightness; High-quality Makrolon housing protects the inner workings. Guaranteed shock-resistant and 100% mil. spec. waterproof (tested to a submersion depth of 5 meters). Rubber armoring offers toughness and a great grip; Nitrogen pressure purging completely eliminates inner fogging from -40-deg. F to +176-deg. F (-40-deg. C to +80-deg. C); Intelligent prism suspension with special silicon carriage keeps your view completely aligned, even in rough conditions; Steiner Sports Auto-Focus... you set the focus once and then everything from 20 yards out is sharply defined, without further adjustment. With memo
Forget all you ever knew about binocular images, as the sensational, high-definition optics from the Steiner 7x50 Commander V binocular will give you a completely new, uniquely clear view. Even under the most difficult lighting conditions, Steiner's special BaK-4 prisms and unique coating technology transmit a ton of light to deliver clear, high-contrast, three-dimensional vision. Internally, the binoculars boast a stray light prevention system, which offers a series of baffles that add to the 95-percent-plus peak brightness. At the same time, the Commander V offers a wide field of view that provides excellent vision in every situation, night or day. Why do Navy SEALs and professional mariners worldwide rely on Steiner's superior image quality and high-end optics? Look no further than the 7x50 Commander V to learn the truth.

The Commander V's built-in compass makes it ideal for open-water adventures.
The Commander V also includes a high-depth-of-field Sports Auto-Focus that gives you a clear view of everything from 20 yards to infinity without refocusing, making it perfect for spotting buoys, markers, and navigational hazards. The depth of field and Steiner's incredibly bright optics work especially well at night, when the exact distance of objects is uncertain. As a bonus, the Commander V comes with an integrated compass, so you can easily determine your bearings while on the open water.

Durability
Steiner binoculars have always been legendarily rugged. The Commander V boasts a high-quality Makrolon housing that protects the sensitive technology and helps the binocular hold up to extreme environmental conditions. Guaranteed shock-resistant and mil spec waterproof (tested to a submersion depth of 5 meters), the rubber armoring offers a superior grip, protects the binocular from dents and bumps, and prevents slipping on wet surfaces. The nitrogen pressure system, meanwhile, complete eliminates inner fogging from -40 to 176 degrees F. And thanks to the intelligent prism suspension--which includes a carriage made of special silicon--your vision will stay completely aligned. Perhaps the most important housing feature, however, is the newly integrated compass, which is now assembled entirely within the binocular. This means the compass is no longer in danger of being damaged at the connection point or being shared off. Further, the entire compass is now rubber armored.

Comfort and Convenience
The Commander V sets a new benchmark in operating convenience by integrating all the features of top-performance binoculars with a number of new innovations. For example, the binocular's new intelligent Sports Auto-Focus includes memory eyepieces that let you recover your personal setting at any time, even in darkness. The binocular also includes ergonomically shaped wrap-around eyecups with ventilated oculars for protection from side light. And users will love the reliable, extra-large, high-performance compass, which includes a new reticle that covers considerably less of the viewing area than prior models. Other features include an easy-to-operate compass illumination button with a clearly marked action point; a patented Clic-Loc quick-change system that makes it easy to add the optional flotation strap; and a rain protection cover that preserves the angle of the binoculars.
