Sports reviews of Squeeze DVDCustomer Review: Who knew 2 pound weights could cause such a burn! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Squeeze is my first foray into barre type workouts. I've been doing heavy weight workouts like P90X and Cathe's STS, as well as intense cardio. In my quest to diversity my training, I thought I would try Squeeze. Well, now I'm hooked!
Why I love Squeeze:
**Tracy's personality. Her down-to-earth and encouraging words make me feel as though she's right in the room with me.
**the detailed form pointers. When doing high rep workouts, it's all too easy to get into a trance and get sloppy with your form. Tracey's gentle reminders come at just the right time to help me keep my form.
**the focus on posture. I love the reminders to pull in my abs, keep neck long and shoulders back. I work at a computer all day and tend to sit hunched over. These posture reminders are just the thing for me.
**it's tough! I never knew that teeny tiny 2 pound weights could cause so much muscle burn. I always feel very worked out after doing this workout.
**the interesting set. I like the switching between a brick-walled studio and the city rooftop. Watching the switches distracts me from the burning of my muscles. It's fun for me to try and figure out what the roof top sign says.
**the workout versatility. This DVD includes a 60 minute total body workout, a 30 minute Power Squeeze workout and a 38 minute Custom workout. Both the Power Squeeze and Custom workouts include different exercises than what's in the full workout. I will never get bored with this DVD.
**the extensive stretching sections. Okay, I know stretching is an important part of any fitness program, but I tend to skip it. Tracy has integrated the stretches into the workout and it's perfect.
**how I feel afterwards. I feel worked out, relaxed, and stand taller.
My plan is to do Squeeze 3 times a week, alternating with cardio and yoga.
I highly recommend this workout to anyone wanting a workout challenge, all while increasing flexibility.
Customer Review: Tough but so worth it! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
If you've tried Callanetics, Fluidity, Lotte Berk, or the Bar Method then you have some idea of the style of workout you can expect from Squeeze. Tiny movements that (when performed properly) burn like hell and give nearly instant gratification. Out of all of the above listed schools of exercise Squeeze is definitely the toughest and most thorough form.
Tracy, the instructor, is very no-nonsense. She reminds me of a slightly stern soccer mom. In my opinion she has the perfect personality for guiding someone through such an exhausting workout, I find that I respond better to her constant nagging encouragement than I would to someone with a sweet and gentle demeanor.
Now let's discuss the workout in detail, shall we?
There are two pre-set workouts on this DVD:
The Full Body Squeeze (56 Minutes)
Power Lifts, Arms (dumbbells), Triceps (dumbbells), Waist (dumbbells), Push Ups, Tricep Dips, Standing Stretch (chair or barre), Legs (chair or barre), Seated Stretch, The L (leg lifts), Ab "C" (playground ball), Buns & Thighs, Final Stretch
The Power Squeeze (30 minutes)
Power Lifts, Push Ups, Tricep Dips, Standing Stretch (chair or barre), Legs (playground ball, chair or barre), Pretzel, Abs (playground ball), Buns & Thighs (playground ball), Final Stretch
You can also customize your workout with these options separately:
Triceps
Arms
Seated Stretch
Pretzel
Fold Over Plank
Flat Abs
Windshield Wiper Buns & Thighs
The dumbbells can be 1-5 lbs, I use either no weights or 3 lb dumbbells which I find almost unbearably challenging. You'll need a tall bar chair with a sturdy base or a ballet barre. The playground ball works best if it's a 10" ball with a textured surface for easy gripping. Another reviewer indicated that a Pilates "magic circle" can be substituted for the ball for better results.
Customer Review: Incredibly intense yet simple moves Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
If you're familiar with the Bar Method or Lotte Berk Method DVDs, Squeeze is very similar yet much - and I mean MUCH tougher. The workout is divided into several segments for each body part, any of which can be done alone, combined, or performed the whole way through for a one-hour, full-body routine. It also includes a condensed 30-minute "Power Squeeze" routine for when you're pressed for time. The exercises for each part of the body are unique and simple but definitely create a good burn. Consisting of isometric exercises with yoga-based stretches, you'll mostly work in pulses using limited range of motion that works deep in the muscles. Required equipment includes an exercise mat, a set of light dumbbells (1-3 pounds is all you need here to set the muscles in your arms on fire), a chair for balance, and a small exercise ball (you can just buy one of those air-filled kiddy balls for less than $2 in the toy section of any major department or grocery store like I did). The ball is used for the buns, inner thighs and abdominals and boy does it sure rev up the intensity! This is a great workout to alternate with standard concentric/eccentric based exercises as you'll challenge the muscles in a totally different way. The abs portion in the power squeeze routine is especially killer and actually left mine sore the next day (which is typically hard to accomplish). Tracy is an excellent instructor who comes across as straight-forward and down-the-earth. The video switches back and forth between two urban settings - one indoor and one outdoor. The accompanying downtempo/electronica music is well-suited and overall this video is fast becoming a favorite!

Tracy Effinger's Squeeze DVD
I have been working out (cardio and weights) consistently for the past 12 years. I consider myself an intermediate exerciser. I have done a variety of different types of workouts-including Barr-but this one beats all hands down for difficulty. I could not get through the legs or abs portion of her 1 hour or 30 minute segment. I have been doing Barr method for the past 3 months and was just getting to the "mastery/boredom" point so I began looking around for a new challenge-and oh boy here it is. My goal is to complete the 1 hr and 30 min segments entirely-it may take me a couple of months.
Otherwise, this DVD is very fast paced. You have to constantly "watch" your posture and alignment. Tracy does begin her workouts with tips and alignment instructions, but she doesn't continually repeat the same info through out the workout. I find this refreshing-during most other exercise DVDs, the continual harping on posture annoys me so much I sometimes mute the DVD (once I have completely mastered the basics).
The exercises are intense and challenging. If you are a Barr fan, definitely check this one out!
Customer Review: A Superb Workout!!! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I got Tracy's Squeeze DVD yesterday, tried it, got COMPLETELY squeezed out and addicted! I can't praise it enough though I can hardly write my review now, even the tips of my fingers hurt but what a wonderful feeling! Other reviews have gone into details about what the DVD actually contains, so I won't repeat that, I can only confirm that it takes lots of elements from what the late Lotte Berk taught together with yoga stretches and isometric exercises. What makes it so special is that all this is blended in a truly unique way to give you an unforgettable workout. Tracy's personality comes out as very sunny and enthusiastic and this helps you going even when every muscle quivers and all you want is to stop. The exercises are a killer but you almost feel how every part of you is lifting up and getting toned and strong. So this definitely is a DVD that I'll be working out very often to and my sincere recommendation for everyone that wants to see very quick and lasting results is to do exactly the same. Thank you Tracy for a really superb method for getting our bodies the way we want them!
