Customer Review: ergonomically superior

The Native is a great little EDC knife - it's not a large knife, nor is it heavy, so will not hinder you even when wearing lighter clothes. Although it does not feature skeletonized steel liners, my Native (I've owned one before and lost it) seems sturdy. Certainly the blade has no play vertically or laterally.
The clip isn't as rigid as the Spyderco Tenacious, but is slightly tighter than my Spyderco Endura, and is put on with one big cross-hair screw instead of 3 little torx screws - this is probably better, since it is pretty easy to strip those torx screws. It's painted black, and this paint WILL come off with a little time, but this doesn't bother me. Note that this knive is of pinned (not screws) construction - you can't adjust the pivot tension or take it apart, but this was never a problem with my old Native.
The finger choil sits in a forward position, cut out of the blade itself, making this knife my best "choke up for better control" blade - your index finger is not grouped with your other fingers quite as much, it's out in front providing finer movement control - plus there's spine jimping for your thumb.
The steel is CPMS30V, which is premium blade steel. I don't know yet which I prefer, this or VG-10, but you can't really go wrong here.
The spearpoint, hollow ground blade looks cool, and looks different from most blades you are going to see.
All in all? for $53, this is one of Spyderco's "value knives", and is a worth investment.
Description of Spyderco Native Lightweight Plain Edge Knife, Black
Engineered to fit the human hand, the Native's ergonomic design maximizes cutting ability while minimizing discomfort and fatigue. A superior combination of performance and comfort, it features two separate finger choils for maximum versatility during use. The first choil (where the blade and handle meet) allows the index finger to be positioned closer to the edge for precise, controlled cutting. The second choil positions the hand farther back for increased power and comfort. Bi-Directional Texturing molded into the FRN handle creates a multi-level -Inch stepped -Inch texture for a positive grip. The locking lever features a relieved David Boye Dent to ensure that the lock remains safely engaged even when gripping the handle forcefully. The Native's blade is hollow-ground CPM-S30V steel with a weight-reducing swedge and a section of textured -Inch jimping -Inch on the spine to provide a slip-resistant purchase for the thumb. A black steel pocket clip offers tip-up carry and can be reversed for left or right-side carry via a barrel-shaped screw that doubles as a lanyard hole.Sports and Outdoors
