About Speedo In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, "Speed on in your Speedos." In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn?t take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it?s manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange. Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits. Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland?s Inge de Bruijn. Sports reviews of Speedo Vanquisher Swim GoggleCustomer Review: Great value for the money Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I swim a mile per day in the pool for exercise. I hate goggles that leak - the chlorine drives me nuts. After reading the reviews, I purchased these from Amazon.
They never leaked or fogged up in seven months of use. I would probably still be using them, except I left these at the pool - never to be seen again. Hopefully, someone is still getting quality use out of them.
Out of curiosity, I replaced these goggles with the Speedo Vanquisher plus goggles after reading the reviews. Not much of a difference, but I prefer the Vanquisher plus goggles. They seem like they are built a little stronger. For the difference in price, I would recommend the Vanquisher plus goggles.
However, these served me well in the period of time I used them - no complaints. Certainly one of the better values you will get for your dollar on goggles.
Customer Review: Dry-Eyed and Comfortable Swim Googles! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have been using Speedo Goggles for a long time, but these Vanquishers are a huge step up. My eyes stayed completely dry, these googles did not leak at all. The padding has been plumped, so these are much more comfortable, and do not feel like they are stretching the skin around my eyes. The the straps are easy to adjust, as well. I bought the Clear to swim at night, and Mirrored as I swim during the day, too. I also bought Vanquisher 2.0, but returned them. The nose bridge was too hard to remove. I called Speedo Customer Service, and they told me to pull it, but it broke. The 2.0s are too much trouble. But to test it out, I borrowed a friend's 2.0s, and they are not as comfortable as the regular Vanquishers. These regular Vanquisher Speedo Swim Goggles are terrific!
Customer Review: wow! great goggles! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Okay, I grew up buying the cheap googles that you'd find at walmart or kmart or target, etc. etc. So as you can imagine, I never found goggles that I really liked. None fit that great even though they were adjustable.
Then I got these and wow! They're so comfortable. They fit perfectly. Instead of having adjustable rubber notches that are hard to adjust and don't quite fit right, these come with detachable/exchangeable nose pieces. and while they're a bit tough to pop off, they fit awesome!
Now I see the allure of goggles! The fit is great. No leakage. No fogging. They feel high quality. Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Excellent Goggles, really no fogging Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I got them yesterday and was so excited aftering trying them. For the entire 40 minutes of my lap swim, it didn't fog at all, seriously. They snuggled to my eyes tight but did not left any line. I was originally planning on purchasing the Speedo Vanquisher Women but as they don't have the colors I want (I wear contact lens therefore need more color on goggle lens to deflect some light), I went for this model and they fit well. I highly recommend this goggle. The bonus point is with extra nose piece in the case, I was able to replace it on the broken one on my old goggle and it fits well. My previous goggle was made in Japan, non-Speedo brand.
Customer Review: Outstanding googles at a great price! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought these a few months ago to replace a pair of Speedo Hydrospex goggles, and really love them! Unlike other goggles, which wear out quickly, these ones are still airtight after months of daily swimming in heavily chlorinated pools. I tried to make sure to rinse them and let them dry after use, but I often forget, and they have withstood the abuse remarkably well.
The smoke-colored goggles are especially sleek and cool looking; the silver goggles, by contrast, looked a little funny. I also purchased optical versions through Amazon, so if anyone is looking for prescription swim goggles, they are also readily available.
