Customer Review: Worlds' Best Flashlight!

I say "worlds' best" because if you take into account the cost, the light weight, the small size, and the brightness of the light, as well as the red "night vision" light....what more could the average person want?
We've had ours several months now, and NEVER had a problem. Unlike the one very negative review, there is no difficulty going between the red night vision light and the regular bright white light.
To give that person the benefit of the doubt, he/she may have gotten a defective one and should have notified Amazon or the maker.
I'm now purchasing some for relatives for Christmas, and I'm sure they'll also appreciate these. Here in Florida we do have lights go out in bad thunderstorms, as well as for anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks after a hurricane. Having GOOD reliable flashlights, radios, and at least one lantern is a must at those times. Have not had a hurricane since purchasing this flashlight, but next time we do, will be glad we have it. It is SO much brighter than any of the usual ones, as well as smaller and lighter.

This flashlight rocks; it's well-designed and sturdy, and the LEDs put out a decent amount of light. I compared the white light to my 3 D-cell Maglite; it seemed equally as bright, and at a fraction of the weight! It feels good in your hand, albeit a bit on the light side; but as technology keeps improving, the old adage of: "heavy means durable" doesn't apply much any more. Additionally, the machined grip feels like it will hold up to years of abuse.
The battery compartment is another area where I was pleasantly surprised - this flashlight keeps the battery compartment separate (in a way) from the inner workings of the light, and I can only see this being a benefit. Also, unlike traditional flashlight bulbs, LEDs are virtually impervious to shock damage - I'd wager that you could hit this thing with a hammer with little to no loss of brightness.
All in all, this was a great buy - at $24.99 it may seem pricey; the only thing I could ask for would be a lanyard, but since this flashlight seems so durable, a lanyard would be more of a luxury rather than a necessity.

I also own a 3-watt Maglite LED flash that takes 2 AA batteries. I bought the Smith & Wesson 13 LED Galaxy flash because I was curious about the extended life when only using the red light. I haven't had any experience with using red lights and wow did it change the way I view flashlights! If you compare the red light vs the white, the red is more focused (only because it only has 3 LEDs vs the 10 white), but it still provides perfect illumination for what you need. Speaking of which, I've used this in my house and my car, and it's nice in that it won't make your eyes hurt when you turn it on.
It's very gentle on the eyes and its probably why it's used by the military in low light situations. The white light provides as much illumination as the Maglite 2AA LED flash, which if you're only looking for white LED power, stick with the Maglite. Otherwise, the Smith & Wesson is a solid flashlight, with the right amount of heft, and a very solid construction.
A quality flashlight worth putting in your car or around the house.

This s one great light! For those in Law Enforcement, Security, or other Public Safety jobs, here is the light you want! Other than it's big brother the S&W 28 LED flashlight (also sold here at Amazon), this light is what you want! It comes with 3 AAA batteries, and a holster to keep it in (belt adjustable). One button is for the 3 red LED, the other for the 10 white LED.
One thing (I don't know where my brain was) when I took the cap off to put the batteries in, I thought the batteries just slid in the back. I'm looking for where to put them in, then turned it around and out falls the little piece where the batteries go! Luckily it did not crack on the floor.
And the end is a waterproof! When you unscrew it, you can hear the air whoosh with the tight fit. Plus the ends are flattened so it does not roll when you put it down. And the flashlight has a good polished feel in your hand.
The white lights are bright! The red not as bright, but the red does not screw up your night vision as white light does.

The S&W 13 LED flashlight is a great compromise between the cheapo lights found at your local store (e.g. Wal Mart) and those found at premium vendors (e.g. Surefire). The LEDs will last forever, emit an acceptably bright beam (20 lumens for the white and 5 for the red), and offer great battery life (30 hours when using the white light). The flashlights are fairly small, come with a black canvas holster, and construction feels about like a Brinkman (aircraft grade aluminum). The flashlight takes three AAA batteries that fit in a neat little cradle inside the tail and come with the unit.
I was so impressed with this flashlight that I include it in the Disaster Preparedness Auto Kits that I sell. Definitely recommended.
