The Smith & Wesson Galaxy 13 LED Flashlight is an extremely popular light. It features Dual Switch Technology and has an anodized aluminum body with 10 White LEDs (for general illumination) and 3 Red LEDs. Red LEDs allow you to see at night while preserving your natural night vision. They are used in aviation, law enforcement, military, astronomy, hunting, camping, etc. It runs up to 30 hours in White LED mode or 80 hours in Red LED mode. A deluxe holster and 3 AAA batteries included. The Limited Lifetime Warranty guarantees you will find the quality and durability you have come to expect from Smith & Wesson since 1852. For many years, the military has used red light as a night time color. Red light allows you to see in the dark without losing your natural night vision. Red LEDs have many uses such as in vehicles at night (so not to disturb the driver or other passengers), map reading, emergency signaling, etc. They are used by pilots, astronomers, truck drivers, police, emergency personnel, military, etc.
Hailing from the famed firearm manufacturer, the Smith & Wesson Galaxy 13 flashlight is an ideal choice for aviators, law enforcement, hunters, campers, and members of the military. The Galaxy 13 is made from tough anodized aluminum, with 10 white LEDs (for general illumination) and three red LEDs (for seeing in the dark without losing your natural night vision). The white LEDs handle the heavy lifting, with a 30-hour battery life via three AAA batteries (included). The red LEDs, meanwhile, are particularly valuable for situations where you don't want to disturb a driver but still need to read a map, or when you're hunting in the early morning hours but don't want to attract too much attention. The red LEDs--which last for up to 80 hours on a single set of batteries--are popular among pilots, astronomers, truck drivers, military personnel, and police officers. The flashlight, which comes with a deluxe holster, carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Customer Review: A Great Flashlight; Be Mindful of Size & Features
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

When I began to look for a new flashlight, I found a strange world of flashlight gurus I had never known. There is a large community of flashlight collectors that are experts in everything flashlight. Alas, I am not a part of that community but still feel I purchased a great flashlight, albeit not exactly what I wanted.

What I was looking for was a better task light than what I had in my single LED Inova flashlight. I mainly used the Inova to work in or around my computer. I thought that the 13 LED's on the Smith & Wesson would help illuminate much more of the inside of my PC case and make it easier to work in. The S&W does that and more. But it wasn't exactly what I thought it was when I bought it. It is significantly bigger than I expected it to be. It is quite bright and now I realize that it is versatile enough to be my main home flashlight. I still keep my baseball bat-sized Mag by my bed however.

The 3 red LED's are fantastic for night vision without disturbing others too much. I sometimes use the red LED's when I'm looking for something in the room at night and don't want to bother my wife, who cannot sleep well unless it's pitch black. The construction of the flashlight is very durable and when screwing the battery compartment back on, it creates a strong seal that feels very solid. The S&W takes 3 AAA batteries, which you insert into a separate cartridge and then you drop the cartridge into the barrel of the flashlight. Kinda like putting bullets in, go figure. I picked this S&W over others because I liked the 30-hour run time. More LED's would've meant lower run times and so for my needs, this S&W was a better fit. Some higher end flashlights that use CREE LED's, require the use of lithium batteries and the run time on those are fairly short but make up for it with significantly better performance.

The bottom of the barrel is flat so you can use it as a candle and it has an anti-roll design so it stays put on flat surfaces. The holster is a nice bonus but since I don't travel with it, I tend not to use it.

LED flashlights are all the rage. Even MAG makes LED flashlights I've noticed and you can buy Nite Ize replacement LED kits for them. The S&W has joined my collection of flash lights and has become the go-to light for a majority of my needs. It feels solid, performs well, is a good value and has an excellent, lifetime warranty. I don't know what else you could ask for really.

Customer Review: Terrific flashlight from Smith & Wesson
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Smith & Wesson is primarily known for their guns but this is one solidly constructed light! I do a ton of research on any tactical/survival gear I buy and this was no exception. I am impressed. It's made from anodized aluminum and it feels rugged in your hands but somehow lightweight. This flashlight looks and feels great. It has a very firm and ergonomic fit and finish to it. I found it's very easy to switch buttons on and off while maintaining your control of the flashlight. No problems.

I will say that if you are purely looking for a flashlight based on it's incredibly awesome powers of illumination or the ability to focus the light beam, than this flashlight will probably leave you wanting. It's bright but it's not a $200 flashlight and it is powered by AAA's after all. For the other 85% of us who want rugged, quality construction while still being lightweight with functional switches for white and red, long battery life, great lighting capability, run on AAA's, etc, etc....this is a great flashlight.

Also, a nice feature is that it has a flat base. You can stand this flashlight up on the floor of your garage, kitchen or wherever. You can't do that with all flashlights especially ones that have the switch on the bottom.

The red light is very cool and bright enough to see with. I had no issues with the buttons working. They work perfectly out of the box. You can control both switches independently and they click solidly.

I compared this to the Smith & Wesson 28 LED Galaxy flashlight along with several other flashlight makers and settled on this one. The 28 LED Galaxy flashlight had a few more LED's and blue LED's along with red and white. But it is also bigger, weighs more, and churns through batteries quicker. I needed something that I can slip in my tactical/survival/camping bag while at the same time use it around the house if necessary. This fits the bill. Rugged, dependable, and very functional for a good price.

Customer Review: Pretty Good Flashlight for Random Use
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I was pleasantly surprised by this flashlight. Smith and Wesson makes a good product, but sometimes quality manufacturers just slap their names on underachieving new products (case in point: Wusthof Emerilware knives). Anyways, I was in the market for a random-use flashlight -- one that I could grab when I needed it and not worry about the batteries being drained. I wanted something durable (not plastic), versatile (not a big honking Maglite or lantern), and energy efficient (LED). As you've probably noticed getting to this page, there are a lot of options. Here are my key points:

PROS: LED uses very little battery power and is fairly bright. The light is a crisp white and is picked up well by reflectors. The casing is a solid metal, with a screwed on end-cap lined by a rubber/plastic O-ring to keep water out. The metal casing is so durable I don't think I'll ever have to worry about chipping or damaging the flashlight. Switches are raised and easy to find in the dark. I've been told the red LEDs are useful for wanting to maintain night vision.

CONS: You're not going to land 747s with the beam. If you're looking for something with a higher light output, you might want to try the Streamlight Scorpion LED Flashlight #85010. The raised switches can be turned on accidentally when holstering the flashlight in the nylon sleeve (It's not a big deal, but it is what it is). My only regret was I didn't get the 28 LED S&W for only 8$ more.

I use it most often when taking the dog out at night and snooping around the attic. It's small enough to be used for examining the crevices in my engine. I guess when you consider the Smith & Wesson brand, I'm using paramilitary gear for walking the dog!

Customer Review: LED flashlight
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Up front I am a big fan of LED lights, since my first one in 1999, lets say I have a few, this one the Smith & Wesson is the best of both worlds, what I mean by that is the white and red led's, the technology has come so far since '99, this light has 10 very powerful white led's but the red light from 3 led's is what I am talking about the advancement in light output from just 3 small led's.

The housing is very impressive alum the two button switches is a vast improvement over the more simple single button to select either white or red, which makes one cycle through the light you may not want or need, I keep this model next to my bed, if I have to get up anytime at night, I reach for it, knowing the bottom push button is the 3 red leds, it's great not to grab your eyes when switching on a electric bulb and holding a hand over your eyes while finding your way down the hall, there is so much light out of those 3 red leds one can see anything in one way, great for outside at night to keep one "night vision" but also just a touch switch away for more white light just in case, a great light for people walking a dog, using the red light you have enough to see and the benefit of not blinding the dog when the dog looks up at the owner and gets a face full of white light.

Powered by just 3 small "AAA" alkaline batteries, I am still on the first 3 I got with the unit ! it's been months of course that is the other benny of LED's very long battery life.

It you want this kind of light with a choice of white or red, in a very well built unit, and the fit and finish was a surprise when I first opened it, and with a outstanding price, go for it.

Customer Review: Good all around light
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The Smith and Wesson Galaxy 13 combo flash lite is the light to be had. I searched high and low to find the right flash and I found it! The only negative that I could come up with is that it is relatively large [6.5"in length], for my use. That being said, it is an excellent light that will surpass your expiations, whatever your requirements.

I was looking for a combo light that would produce true red light for darkroom, photography night shooting. I've tested this light and it is superb! Trying to adjust your camera in the dark is a snap with this light. The true red colour is bright enough to light the camera so that you may make any adjustment required without affecting your white vision. It can also be used to lite maps, make or read your notes, or any other use where one does not want to affect their white vision. Many other light advertise red but actually produce orange or a "dirty" red containing impurities which WILL affect your night vision. The craftsmanship is beyond belief. The two buttons, individual control of each mode is easy to control in the dark.

The belt loop holster is a tight fit, works well and is very durable. It has a small pouch to carry a spare set of batteries.

Keep in mind that this is a small flash light, operates on three AAA batteries, and is Not a spotlight with a infinite powersource!

You can carry it pretty much carry it anyplace, with excellent workmanship, this light is well worth the money and I don't think anyone will be disappointed.
