Customer Review: I love these bottles! Too bad they do leak
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I just got my sigg bottles today, One for my 4 year old daughter and one for my 2 year old. They both seem to love them. Yes they do get cold and yes they do leak. I am planning on getting the grips($[...],) since they are much cheaper then the neoprene pouch($[...] each). As for the leaking, I think Id rather worry about a little leaking from a bottle, then a bottle that doesnt leak and contains millions of tiny germs and other nasty things my lil ones are drinking up.

I didn't realize the quest for safe drinking water for my child would be this difficult.

I initially used BPA-free plastic sippies of various kinds w/o success b/c they'd all leak. I came upon Sigg and thought it was a brilliant idea. My 1 year old child took to it immediately. I called Sigg about the plastic top sippy part and they said it was #5, which I was fine with. Supposedly the safest type out there. Naturally, the bottle was dropped a lot and there was a dent. This didn't cause any issues w/ me b/c according to Sigg, the inner lining (epoxy) of the aluminum is safe despite dents (although I read somewhere that they weren't disclosing the epoxy contents?). I was also fine when I placed ice cold water in it and it sweated, although my child had to hold the neck to avoid touching the aluminum. The top was narrow but I accepted it b/c I had bottle brushes. The twist top was tough for my child but I thought she'd figure it out later. At least it didn't leak. I had come to accept and adapt to its shortcomings.

Then I read that aluminum can also leech into drinks. Uh oh. And I didn't realize that there were linings to aluminum, unlike stainless steel. I was going to go for Kleen Kanteen but also read some possible ill effects of stainless steel interacting w/ certain types of waters (eg, reverse osmosis).

Now I can't hand a child a glass bottle, so I'm confused. If anyone knows of an alternate solution, I would appreciate your comment.

Customer Review: hard to clean
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I bought one of these a while back and just started giving it to my two year old. The performance of the cup is fine, I agree with other reviewers, I have to "babysit" the opening and closing of the spout or it will spill everywhere b/c it always ends up on the floor on its side, so maybe it's really meant for older children.

But my main problem is cleaning it. I have tried and tried to use a bottle brush (non sigg brand), paper towels, soaking it and it keeps getting mildew on the inside if it is left in the cabinet a day or two without use. I even put it in the dishwasher which I don't think you are supposed to do and it still smells awful inside and gets mildew around the rim, like the furry growing kind.

I just did a google search and I guess there are special cleaning tablets that you can use to clean these out, but I don't want to spend even more money on a drinking cup for a two year old.

Customer Review: is lining BPA free?
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

Every member of my family has one Sigg bottle. My kids love the designs and I love not going through so many plastic water bottles. Plus my kids get the floride in our tap water, which is pretty tasty, filtered and cheap. But, does anyone know if the lining of the bottle BPA free. After reading about canned goods, including infant formula cans, have BPA in the lining of the cans, I'm not so sure. That is the only reason I gave the product 3 stars, otherwise I love my Sigg bottle.

Customer Review: no more top...
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I bought this bottle for my 2 year old and she likes it, we only use it for water. we only had the bottle a few days and my daughter dropped it on carpeted floor and the plastic cover broke off. It didn't break at the hinge, the plastic split and broke most of the top off so I had to take plyers to get the remaining sharp plastic off. It still works fine, but the tops should be more sturdy since they are made specifically for kids...
