Sports reviews of Schwinn Free Wheeler Jogging Stroller

Customer Review: Hesitant at First
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

At first we were hesitant to purchase this stroller without seeing it in person. We use this stroller for jogging (2 - 5 miles a few times a week). We have a lightweight one for everyday and a Graco travel system for trips we think would require the bigger stroller. That being said, we like this stroller a lot. It is easy to maneuver, rides smoothly, and was in our price range. It folds, but it is large and bulky. I don't think it would fit in my trunk. It fits both of us, one being 6'4" and the other 5'4". My one year old enjoys it. We were worried about the seat recline as our baby is curious and constantly looking around. When the seat is all the way up, it is fine. There is a slight recline, but nothing that is uncomfortable. If you were using this as an everyday stroller, it might be a problem for super curious kids, but I don't think so. The swivel wheel is easy to lock for jogging and unlock for when we walk at the end of the jog. We don't like the basket -it's flimsy and shallow cup holder - no water bottles. Overall it's great for the price and does the job well.

Customer Review: Good stroller, but locked position defective
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I was thrilled with this stroller, and like almost everything about it. It glides very smoothly, is comfortable for jogging or walking, very maneuverable, etc. However, I was disappointed to discover that there had been a flaw in the manufacturing, and when the front wheel is in the locked position, it veers to the right. You can't really jog with it in the swivel position, because the front wheel shimmies when you go too fast.

Customer Review: Just got my stroller, but wanted to note ...
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

The stroller looks great and I'm about to take it for its first spin. However, I wanted to note for other potential buyers that when they say the stroller includes a weather shield, they just mean the sun canopy. It does NOT include a separate plastic wind/rain cover, which is how I had interpreted "weather shield" (and some of the reviews had seemed to reinforce this). You have to buy the weather cover separately.

Customer Review: Ok, but BOB is better
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I have been pushing and carrying this stroller for almost two years now and inspite of the fact that it does still serve my purposes, I cannot recommend it. I will compare to BOB revolution, as that is the other similar stroller that I know.
Problems:
-The foot break: 1)pops up easily and so is not a reliable way to hold the stroller in place while you leave the stroller unattended. 2)Tends to fall down, catching the wheels so they won't move when going down hills or curbs. This is potentiall very dangerous and for this reason alone I would not recommend the stroller. While crossing a large busy street, the break fell down, catching the wheels. Meanwhile, the crosswalk light was about to change, and I was in the middle of the street, panicking because I didn't know why my stroller wouldn't move properly. After a second occurance, I realized the problem and have since rigged a rope around the break which I hold up with my hands to keep the break from falling down. Serious flaw, in my opinion.
BOB stroller's break works from the other direction, so there is no similar problem.

-Canopy: 1) at first I thought this big canopy was great. The multi-positioning system worked great for my 6-12 month baby whose feet couldn't reach it when pulled all the way forward. However, now that she can kick, it is useless to pull all the way down because it is immediatly in the way of the toddler's feet. Without pulling it all the way forward, there is no way to block afternoon sun. 2) In addition, the rotating mechanism has broken twice. While the friendly customer service kindly sent me all the new parts, it was extremely difficult to put back together (needed four hands and a lot of time), and the second time required the service of payed professionals.
BOB's canopy shades child without having to rotate down near the feet.

-Stroller board: As a heads up, there is no stroller board, that I can find, which is compatible with the stroller. I have even tried a couple, and they just don't fit. This is mainly because the stroller's shocks, are in the way. The shocks are basically useless, as far as I can tell, anyway. The handle bar and fold bar also get in the way of the child's head, even when I mounted the stroller board over the shocks, (which is not safe anyhow).
I might have to buy a BOB just because of this!

-Folding: As many others have mentioned, schwinn lacks a locking mechanism for folding the stroller. I have found this to be very inconvenient. It is also very bulky when folded and definetely requires two hands to lift/carry. Taking the wheels off is entirely too much trouble, in my opinion, for every day use.
BOB folds so easily, has a nice carry handle, and can be carried with one hand.

-Underseat basket: While it is large, it drags on the ground over curbs and in the snow or mud, especially when there is anything other than a blanket in there. Never mind the dirt, but I don't like my bananas getting bruised on the way home from the grocery.
The access for the BOB basket is definetly not as easy as the Schwinn, but you can actually carry groceries or garage sale finds in it without worrying about breakage.

-Parent tray: Works fine, but keys, etc bounce around quite noisly in it. BOB features a canvas tray which is much nicer.

-Seat recline: This also is ok, especially after I threaded the mechanism around behind the seat instead of right behind baby's head. It isn't very easy to use, though, as others have reported.

I am still using this stroller. It is nice to push and my child likes it fine. Customer service is very nice (I have called them many times in two years). However, I think the extra money for a BOB or other better stroller is well worth it, in the long run. I would not purchase this stroller again, nor recommend it.

Customer Review: Pretty good, but some design flaws.
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I'm a stay-at-home mom, currently with 4 strollers, for one baby. I enjoy each of them, and this one is second in line as my current favorite. All of my strollers serve a different purpose. My travel system is a Peg Perego (which turns into a plush, big stroller), then we have a Schwinn/InStep Bike Stoller, this Schwinn Jogger and a Britax umbrella stroller.

We discovered last month, Schwinn has wonderful service. Our Instep/Schwinn Bike stroller broke this summer and they sent us the replacement part for free, we did not have to pay for shipping or handling either. We had no receipt or warranty, they were very helpful over at Schwinn/Instep. I find that wonderful about a company, great customer service.

As for this jogger stroller and my review. I have many reasons 'why' I cannot give this stroller 5 stars. The material on this stroller is not that great of quality (front bumper scratches easily too). The quality, is just "ok". On our Peg Perego, the material is amazing. I might be too picky, because I am comparing the material to a high quality line. The sunshade, really serves no purpose when you are in daily sun. For some reason, the sun is always in the way, unless you are walking one direction. Which is .....when your back is against the sun and later in the day. I do like the cool little peek-a-boo sunroof, though. Don't get me wrong, the shade is huge, but no matter what I do, I cannot keep the sun out of my little one's eyes. My question is...did they not do any test runs with an actual baby in-tow, in the sun?, when they made the design? Also, I discovered, on a windy day, there is no locking sidebars, to keep the wind from blowing the shade, back into folding position. My Peg Perego has an awesome sunshade, the design is what all shades should be. Not only does my Peg Perego lock, so the wind can't blow the shade back, but it also has a drop down front to keep the sun out of babies eyes. On the Schwinn, the rain cover is nice (it's built in), however it will not cover my baby's feet and she is as long as a 18-24 month old. Her whole body is covered nicely, but you'll need rain boots to keep those toes from getting wet (if you are in the rain). There is no area on this stroller to attach the connectors of the raincover either. My husband says it was a flaw in the design. If you want to adjust the babies seat, you can't do this with any latches, you will need to do this with some kind of tiecord, which is very akward to do, especially if baby is in the seat. You'll want to adjust the seat before baby gets in. It's very easy to recline, once they are in, however to go back into upright position, you'll have a hard time if baby is in seat. It's a strange design and I have no idea why they would of made such a cheap latch/tie system. Also, the back of the seat is a mesh covering, around the cushion seat, itself. If you like to run in the rain, you better have baby in a rain jacket, because any kind of backsplash will get all over baby. One more thing, the locking system at feet is really stubborn and this stroller will roll-a-way easily, even on the smallest hill/incline. Now, to the pros of this stroller. I like how easy it is to collapse. Also, it's a smooth run for both mom and baby. It looks cool and almost like a Bob. Both mom and baby trays are great, the bucket is a nice size, but can bend easy. The seat is really comfy for baby, so on a nice day, this is a plush ride (just not on rainy days). If your baby is about to get tired, this ride will for sure put them out for a good jog. One more good point, the front bumper covers the wheel nice, so mom's dont have to worry about toes getting into tire-spokes. Overall, this stroller is about 3 out of a 5. I'll bump it up to a 3.5, only because the company has good customer service.
