When I brought home the skates for my son he was so excited that he didnt have to rent skates from our local rink anymore. They look very cool and have a simple latch system that is easy to operate for him (age 6). The only complaint as a beginner skater was that the wheels were too "slippery" so we had to tighten them up a little but will be good to make them roll smoother as he gets better at skating. The brakes seems very large off the front (not like in the picture, it is very diamond shaped and protrudes quite far from the nose of the skate), however they work great for a quicker boost up after he falls and tries to stand back up. There were no complaints from him about foot pain-or ankle rubbing, so I think overall this is a great pair of beginner skates and Im so excited that we have a chance at saving some money too cause he is in the size 2 slot and they go to size 4. Very exciting from a mom's point of view.
