Separating the two traction plates is a padded rubber carrying handle. Measures 33.5" long x 10" wide. Weighs 8 lbs. Wear helmet and pads for safety. 90-day warranty. Best described as a cross between a skateboard and a snowboard, the Ripstik caster board is the perfect ride for kids looking for the next big thrill. Sports reviews of Ripstik Caster BoardCustomer Review: Great for parents with toddlers and youngsters! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This is an excellent device. I am a 40 year old only "kind of" athletic man. I don't know how to skateboard, but I was able to pick this up in about 20 minutes.
It is really a great device for getting a fun little workout in. And even better...if you happen to have kids in the 2-5 year old range, it is a great way to accompany them when they ride on their tricycle, scooter and bicycle (with training wheels). Let me explain why. If you are riding on a bike and your kid is on a trike or a bicycle then they are going *painfully* slow. You will be constantly waiting for them. But on this little beastie, you will have to bust your ass to keep up with them on bike. You can go at a fairly comfortable clip when they are on a scooter. And if they are on a trike, then you can go in largish circles.
You are entertained, they are entertained. Everyone is happy. And you are helping to stave off the inevitable softening of your body.
It is *very* durable. I am 200 pounds and I beat the bejeesus out of this thing.
I do not agree with criticism that this is overpriced. It is well made and stands up to some abuse.
NOTE: I do *not* do the fancy pants skater tricks on it. So maybe it would break if I did that. Not an issue for me.

I brought the ripstick today 11/19/08 and I must say that this thing is great. I'm 42 and love the outdoors like biking kayaking etc... When I first saw this thing I said you got to be kidding me how do you ride this thing. I was looking for something to exersice with around the house besides my trailbike. I looked and looked at different types of equipment I even got a stationary bike but it is just not what I wanted. I was going to get the Trikke but the cost is too much and very hard to ride. Then I looked at the Ripstick again and said, "hmmm I wonder if I could really ride this thing". I looked up how to ride it on youtube and said MY GOSH this thing is easy to ride. I got up early this morning and let me tell you it is a blast to ride I think it is easier than a skateboard. For you old school just remember the song The Twist and you will be riding in no time. Even though it says on the warning that the max weight is 220lbs, let's just say that I got a extra 35lbs that I need to loose lol but it handles great. I even taught my son and he wants one now. Heck I might even make a video on how to ride it for beginners. Well I say if you thought about it, get it you will like it maybe even love it once you get the hang of it.

I am 44 years old and my nephew is 42 years old. We both have the Rip Stick and love it. I take it everywhere. It took less than a minute to learn how to ride (after watching the DVD) and about two hours to master. Now I can go on the half pipe at the skate park and I am loving it. Recently at the skate park, the teenagers (Pro's) were interested and I let them play with the Rip Stick for a couple of hours. They had great fun and some of them say they are going to get one. I have had no problems with wheel wear on any type of surface. I would like to see a high end super wheel with smooth bearings like on the good skateboards. I think it would produce an even better ride, but I am not complaining. For great fun find a lot with a long run and a high wind to push you. Look for a smooth surface for learning. It may seem crazy - only 2 wheels. It is just fun at a fast or slow pace. In fact it is just as fun to go slow and do awesome maneuvers as it is to go fast on a smooth surface. It is the closest thing to side-walk-surfing that I have ever found. There are numerous tricks or maneuvers that even a novice can try to add to the fun. I highly recommend this for anyone, and especially the middle aged and young at heart.
Customer Review: My Preteens LOVE Their Ripstiks Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My kids have been out riding their ripstiks on our street along with four other kids that got them as Christmas every weekend since the holidays. It's great! We didn't make it to the snow to ski or snowboard, so this has made a good substitute. With their friends, they have created all kinds of games to play, obstacles, applied new techniques for riding, have contests. They play happily for hours. Only complaint to company would be to stock more colors or patterns. We have two blues, two reds, a silver, and green on the street now.
This is the best toy to come out in a long time! Most of the other popular Christmas gifts this year seem to be computer, video game, indoor coach potato related which I don't want to encourage in my kids, so I'm glad we found this healthy alternative. Even though the boys on the court play lots of rec sports, they seem to have plenty of energy left over after the game to ride on the streets for hours.
Customer Review: A fascinating skateboard! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
There's enough great reviews on this Ripstik. I just wanted to add that my sons, 8 and 9 years old love them. According to some of the reviews, they suggested to buy spare wheels because they wear out quickly. Some said within days and some said within weeks.
It's been about 2 weeks now (since Christmas) and their wheels haven't worn out yet. They use it daily! I guess it depends on the ground it is used on. They mostly use it on the driveway and streets. It probably depends on how rough the cement is to wear down the wheels. So far so good.
As a mom, it looked so interesting that I had to try it myself. Like everyone says here, it was hard to get on at first and scary but after about 1/2 hour, it was fun!
Great invention! Wish they had those when I was a kid.
